I just came across a press release about a new Irish cycling magazine, due to issue it's first edition in March 2015...

Here's an extract from the press release:
"...Silver Cloud Media today (11th Dec) launched Ireland's first new cycling magazine in over ten years with the announcement of Cycling Magazine, an all new publication for Irish bike riders.
Cycling Magazine will hit news stands in March, marking the end of a long drought for Irish cycling enthusiasts starved of a dedicated print publication for many years.
The new publication will be packed full of content from all facets of cycling, on and off road, including news and features, bike tests, technical reviews, coaching and nutrition guidance, star interviews, reports from leisure and competitive events and much, much more
    ..."

    Further down there's this link:
"See the Cycling Magazine brochure here:-
    http://cyclingmagazine.ie/wp/CyclingMagazinePromo/index.html "

Sounds like it could be interesting!

P.S. just in case someone thinks I'm promoting this publication in some way, it has absolutely nothing to do with me (or anyone related to me etc.), I just didn't see anything on Boards.ie about it (I did do a "Search"), and thought it might interest you all :)

While I wish it well, I struggle to see the economic viability of a new print publication in a relatively small market such as Ireland. Let's face it, most people find what they are looking for nowadays through a quick internet search. Its not as if news on how the Irish pros are doing (for example) is particularly sparse with the likes of Stickybottle already covering that space (and indeed one or two people who may be "in the know" posting here or on the likes of FB/Twitter)

    I agree totally.

Whilst I get excited about new magazines all it really does is make me hanker back to pre-boards/twitter/facebook days.

I fail to see their value now.

Up with this sort of thing.

    You can't hold the internet.

I would agree with this as well. I stopped buying magazines a few years back and now only pick one up at the airport, long train journey etc.

I think Stickybottle is an excellent resource for Irish Cycling, Cycling Ulster also for those of us up the top end.

Funny I still have a few copies of Irish Cycling Review from the early 90s kicking around the house. The amount of mistakes in them is just hilarious and the editing is just woeful, things are all over the shop. Maybe it improved because it was a good idean and had good potential. Yes, I am aware it was done on a shoe-string as well.

I'm looking forward to this, will be nice to read reviews and articles from an Irish perspective... more Seskin Hill, less Box Hill...
As long as it doesn't cost 7 or 8 euros like most of the bike mags on the shelves..

I fail to see the appeal of Sticky Bottle, the emphasis there for quantity over quality is only marginally more irritating than the tendency towards sensationalism. In addition, I reckon your remark (relating to 'Irish Cycling Review')..."The amount of mistakes in them is just hilarious and the editing is just woeful, things are all over the shop" could totally be applied to SB.

Though to be honest, I rarely look at SB anymore, not since they managed to published that recipe for making your own energy bars 3 times in a 12 month period. Yawn.

You wouldn't be yawning if it was your recipe. Anyway a lot of online "news and information" sites tend to regurgitate this sort of stuff:pac:

Stickybottle is too tabloid-y for me and seems to ignore womens cycling too.

Really liking thebikecomesfirst.com I must say. Loads of really interesting historical stuff at the moment in the off season. We'll see how they cope with the who's got the scoop in-season :)

I think there is room for both Stickybottle (more immediate news and updates) and an indept magazine with weighter articles

Guess the price will depend on the quality and other revenue and how regular the magazine is publshed ( weekly, onthly , quaterly)

There were a couple of months where it seemed to feature a new UK helmet cam clip every week, and the amount of clickbait stories that have been appearing lately is disappointing.

That said, it's a business that needs to make money, and nobody else has come near their domestic coverage the last couple of seasons. Irishcycling is great for photos and Tommy's diary, but looking forward to the competition of the TBCF in the online space next year.

Is this the same Stickybottle that just throws up ALL the GCN videos and pretends that it's theirs?

SB seems to rely on a variety of places to get its info and other content, but I don't think it makes much of a secret of that (I suspect it's got some from here, and I've been asked a few times for permission to use photos I've put up either here or on FB - they always credit me for them). I think it's probably increasing its audience and also getting quite a few regular contributors, particularly on the training side of things (and the corollary of that is the coaches are getting publicity for their businesses). It's never going to be a major money making operation and acts more as a goto place for info on the Irish racing scene

Another online magazine type website has popped up, very similar to SB: www.thebikecomesfirst.com

Seems to take any cycle related articles from Facebook, youtube etc and post it up, which is grand as articles on FB can get swamped by timeline updates..

Best of luck to the magazine creators but it's a very tough market out there and a limited amount of potential readers...

I think there is room for a publication for those of us of a certain vintage. That said the last mag''Irish Cycling News''in the mid noughties was an excellent publication by Ger Cromwell but obviously wasn't viable for him..I think it will be even harder this time around unless its going to cost a fortune.
