Vodafone contract

Got a letter this morning from Vodafone saying they are ceasing to provide a phone service from the 15th of January and I can cancel under regulation 17 etc.

I'm happy with Vodafone and I'm on the old adsl unlimited broadband. My only concern is when fibre becomes available I'll still be tied into a contract with them and don't want to sign up to the new tariff with 300gb FUP.

I presume whoever I go with will be much the same speed wise, I think it's a choice between magnet and eircom so any reason why I should pick one over the other?

    What do you mean?

They are no longer providing a landline service?

Is this for everyone or just yourself?

I've the actual unlimited older fibre package with calls included so I'm curious.

It looks like if you were on a broadband only package (Simply Broadband) you still had an active phone line that could be used to make emergency calls or to receive calls. It looks like that is now going to be stopped. I guess you'd have to upgrade to one of the broadband plus calls packages if you want to keep a phone line.

I'm not allowed to post the link, but if you go to vodafone.ie its under aboutus/notifications/#broadband14

Presumably if you don't use the phone line, then there's no need to change.

Sky is €5 dearer but it's unlimited. I think the older Vodafone packages are cheaper than the new ones.

    Current VF package = €45, 300GB FUP
Older VF package = €40, unlimited

My broadband is €35 with a €10 discount for a mobile so it's only €25 and I'm getting around 16/17mb so other than the crap upload it's probably the cheapest I can get. I got a ps4 recently and the games are massive compared to PS3 so in 2 weeks I've used 288gb whereas before I was using anywhere from 90-150gb in a month.

I'm direct fed from the exchange so doubt I'll see fiber anytime soon anyway

I got the same letter as above but mislaid it. I contacted them to cancel but they won't allow me. They said I have to wait until the 15th of January. Is this right?
