Hi guys just wondering if the exit at the end of the platform is accessible by the public I want to walk to ballsbridge via Beatty ave after disembarking from the dart from city centre. I've heard you can exit the station at the end of the platform and walk along the dodder river this way.

    Thanks

probably better off putting this in commuting http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=246
I'm fairly sure though that that exit is only for AIB staff who have a fob to get through the gate.

I *think* there's a sign up saying AIB staff only, but there's no control on the gate so anyone can walk through and into the AIB complex and on to Ballsbridge. Someone who uses it regularly will be able to confirm.

you need an AIB staff card to open the gate AFAIK.

Anyone can walk through AIB Bankcentre and enter the platform, but must have a valid ticket.
You should have an AIB staff-card to exit the platform into AIB, but the gate is often just open.

Actually on reading the opening post again I see its not the AIB entrance you need.
There is another way under the railway bridge that crosses the river. This was closed the last time I used Lansdowne Road as they were working on flood defences. However if its now open, you walk down a lane on the "stadium" side of the station and cross a footbridge over the river. Turning right on exit from the footbridge will take you alongside the river to Balls Bridge.

As far as I know the exit on the southbound side near the river is only open on match days and isn't a general purpose exit, but I could be wrong. The exit on the northbound platform near the river is the AIB one which BowWow indicated nominally requires an AIB card, but which doesn't actually require one in practice as it's left open.

Going on the original request "wondering if the exit at the end of the platform is accessible", I think the OP is either referring to the southbound (only open on match days) exit or the AIB (not beside the river) exit. The other end of the platform is where the station building is, so it's obviously open.

Funnily enough I thought the Southbound one was closed on match days, because of H&S issues with crowd control.

I'm talking of the *big* gates that open on to the steps which bring you right to a passage which brings you to the entrance of the stadium - there's really only one purpose for that - taking 500 or more people off a train en-masse and getting them to the match. Taking that number of people through normal turnstiles would result in huge queues on the platform.

There are entrances to both the northbound and southbound platforms at Lansdowne Road, which are accessible, and fitted with turnstiles.

On match days they use an alternative entrance on the southbound platform that is designed to cope with crowds.
