UK Mileage Check before arriving in Ireland

Can anyone help me please? Im looking at a 2012 car privately owned here in Ireland. Ive ran a full Irish and UK Cartell report. The UK report says the
DISCREPANCY FOUND DATA CURRENTLY HELD ON THE NATIONAL MILEAGE REGISTER
INDICATES THAT THERE MAY BE A MILEAGE DISCREPANCY

How can I find out more information on this? I would of expected Cartell to actually provide exact details as opposed to saying there maybe a discrepancy.

Is it an Irish car from new or UK import?

Does it have a service history that can be verified?

He didn't have the UK service history to hand.....so he said. Just showed me recent service history from local dealer.

If he imported it just over 6 months ago and doesn't have the history to hand I would assume it has none, best avoided.

I'm sorry but the Brits are great in keeping service history's / receipts / invoices etc for their cars. For such a new car it should have that but it probably got thrown into Irish Sea on the way over to be given the usual haircut after the docks ! If it was 8-10 yrs old then fair enough that a service books might be missing but not a 2/3 yr old car. Avoid imo.

On a UK car especially on such a new car, it should have a full documented service history. The fact that the UK mileage check flagged a discrepancy and the service history is mysteriously missing would make me run away like Forrest Gump. In the majority of these cases the service history goes missing for a reason rather than accidently.

OP, what make of car is it? Not sure about every brand but the likes of BMW and VW UK have service history records of their cars that would have been serviced by their dealer network. I'd imagine a 2012 car would have a good main dealer service history so it might be worth ringing the likes of BMW UK or whichever brand. You will need the UK Reg of the car, they will not disclose person details due to data protection but should be able verify things like recorded mileage at the time of servicing.

run an hpi(uk) check on previous uk reg. the uk reg is available on his/her log book. Provide current mileage to hpi system.

Hi All, I contacted BMW garage service department in UK where the car came from and they have told me the car was serviced in January this year with 90,000 miles on it, guy was very helpful and advised an additional 25,000 miles was added before it left UK in May 2014.

Total estimated mileage on the car is over 120,000 miles and the guy selling it here in Ireland claims it only has 47,000 miles

    Many thanks for all responses.

On BMW's the mileage is recorded in 3 different locations, the dashboard odometer, the key and the car's ECU. First two are not hard to alter but changing the ECU is a lot more complicated and rarely done by your average clocker.

I'd download a cached copy of the advert locally and report it to the Gardaí. It is illegal to clock a car and the sooner these chancers are caught the better, it may also prevent someone else from being caught.

Listing the Reg too in case someone else does a search for it: 12-D-43844.

Interesting, how did he manage to get a pre import number plate for the UK import? Did he purchase the low plate number?

There will be no shortage of fools who will buy this car, lots in this country do no checks whatsover and then moan about being ripped off.

Only 2010 or older imports get a high number. Anything originally registered from 2011 onwards gets the next available number.

Yes but I would have thought there was more than 43k new cars sold in Dublin in 2012, perhaps not though?

Depends on when the car was imported. Also new car sales have only started recovering since last year.
