Posting/Couriering your bike ahead

I've to attend an event next year and already know the airline can't take my bike due to the number of bikes already booked. Wondered if anyone has posted/couriered their bike ahead to a hotel and then had it sent back? I know someone who used to do it with MTBs but he had greater means than I.

Didn't realise they were doing Flanders and Roubaix sportives. I may be tempted for Flanders bit pricier but handier than flying with the bike.

It seems to only be €35 more expensive than flying with Aerlingus. Or do they do €40 each way.

Btw, I and two others flew to Flanders a few years ago. My bike was only one in Hardcase and they left it behind. No warning. I got it the Igbo before... Just. Rely stressful. It went missing for 48 hours on return too.

Do they only do certain events as this event is a private thing.

I thought it was way dearer. Well for the Marmotte at least. Aer Lingus were 80 quid return for the bike, as against 200 from the shipmytribike crowd.

Good idea and service, but too rich for my blood :(

Just to say about SMTB, you don't have to break your bike down for packing, or rebuild or or break it down & rebuild again for the return trip. They also transport a gear bag for you so alot of people I know that have used them in the past saved on checked in bags too.

The big difference against a commercial flight is transporting on either end. Taxi or train with a bike box is no fun.

Like I said, I've gone via airline before and wasn't exactly chuffed. But it's a track bike this time so. Breaking it down is not really a deal breaker.

Saves on buying or renting a bike box which is a nice chunk of money as well. Much prefer flying with out checking bags if I can avoid it.

Just book the bike on your flight as "sports bag" (assuming you intend to pack it in a box/bag). A gang of us do this regularly without issue.

I won't be booking the fligh. Travel agent will and I don't want to risk being turned around anyway. Thanks though
