    Anyone watching it?

How come they're blurring out the faces of those beating and terrifying residents?

They don't blur faces on Crimecall etc... why do it here?

Is it because they're HSE employees?

    Awful treatment but torture though?

I dunno. Their faces shouldn't be hidden though. They've been filmed breaking laws in a publicly owned place. What's the difference between it and viciously assaulting someone on the street?

The victims are identified so the abusers should be too.

People are paid to do a job and the job to them is to chat together and be on their mobile phones. That's the problem.

    I'm shocked and dismayed.

Its shocking, parts of it remind me of the footage we saw of uncaring orphanages in Eastern Europe we saw during the 1990's where these poor residents are treated as less than human

    Hyperbole ftw!

What would you call it for the people being put through it day after day, and year after year?

Force feeding is a recognized act of torture unless conducted in very specific circumstances and with proper medical oversight.

It's disturbing, I think of my recently passed Mum and it saddens me to think that she could of being treated that way. Good God...

    Disgusting

    Hyperbole ftw!

Torture isn't only water boarding . there are many different forms.

I'm fairly sure force feeding someone would fall into the torture category

I'd imagine the staff faces are hidden as to not prejudice any future legal or disciplinary action. Any investigation would have to look at the full facts, not just those shown in a TV special. Shocking viewing though don't get me wrong.

I purposely avoided watching it, I wouldn't be able to stomach watching it tbh. I also think their faces should be blurred, if they were easily identifiable, I would dread to think of the abuse/assault that would potentially follow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 478 ✭✭jimmy180sx

Why are they protecting this persons identity?

Ha, Paul carney to postpone his retirement and head it up, imposing €50 fines to all involved.

    This is shocking.

While they are probably correct to blur their faces to avoid prejudicing any future action, I think people familiar with the facility won't have a problem recognising voices and clothing.

do they not blur out faces of people carrying out assaults on cctv too

for legal reasons - like a court case pending or the identified person suing because of consequences of being identified by others who might seek revenge etc

That one calling the poor woman by her surname seems to be a class act.

By hiding their faces RTE are protected from being sued. Publicly revealing the identities would only serve to have one massive defamation suit on RTE and we know how they handle those!

Why are these peoples faces covered?
    What charges are they facing?

    Why? HIQA can do it.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

It's a simple thing, but the casual tug down by the hood was such a demeaning action. That "nurse" with the dark hair is a real piece of work.

My gran who was completely bedridden, "climbed over the bed railing" and fell and broke her hip. She had to have a pressure mattress because she couldn't move at all. My mother let it go, but after seeing this... I'm suspicious

What has me absolutely flabbergasted is the fact that there are so many staff members acting like such scummy cnuts.all it takes is one to speak out.

    ****ing disgusting.

They are hard work. They are not strung out on drugs threatening workers with a knife.

They have severe mental and physical disabilities. They require specialist treatment which is what that home is suppose to supply. Workers are suppose to be trained to deal with special needw. Not sit on their phone or smoking leaving patients in chairs for 11 hours

This craic has been going on for years in homes all over Ireland. This just happens to be highlighted. Disgusting.

    Horrible, horrible, treatment.

Seriously, how is this allowed to happen.

Granted its very difficult work, but you can't treat Human beings this way.

Better supervision and training? Better pay so people would do their job better?

Yes, looking after severely disabled people can be very hard work... and you don't make things worse for them by bullying and subjugating them.

Those with brain-damage can't control themselves, those who have no mental/intellectual disability don't have that excuse.
