Have you ever gone out on a limb with style of application?

I have just sent probably the most honest, but not usual letter of application for a job. I suspect it may be shredded and that I'll consequently be black-listed lol, but hey, feic it - my usual letters aren't getting me a job!

So, have you ever sent a less than typical letter of application or CV and more importantly, if so, did you get the job?

I think it's one of those things which seems like a great idea at the time, but has the risk of coming across as "she forgot her medication today".

I think it's better to stick to a conservative, thoughtful cover letter.

I've sent approximately 500 conservative thoughtful cover letters in the past two months, to little avail!
Ach, sure, lesson learned if I hear nothing back!!

Maybe trial run it by applying to a company you're not too pushed about - then if it turns out to be a mistake, you won't kick yourself as much.

This is a role and company which I would LOVE to work for (judging by the spiel anyway). The person they are looking for is not your typical person either, so I figured this was the one where I really should 'trial run' it lol. Haven't heard anything yet anyway! Letter being shredded as we speak no doubt...........

I think it would very much depend on the job and industry. For example a job in finance wouldn't be suited to something imaginative but for a creative job in an ad agency it might make you stand out for the right reasons.

I once went to a company and at interview told them what I thought they were doing wrong and What I could do to fix it.

I kind of attacked them with it and didn't really wait for them to ask me.
Offered me the job on the spot. Didn't take it though as the money was very poor.
