Problem with Vodafone BB - Phone causes BB to drop/become poor

    Hey all,

So Ive started experiencing a really strange issue the last while. My BB provider is Vodafone and needless to say, the overall quality has been pretty **** from the off.

The last while though, when my girlfriends phone connects to the wireless (comes home from work, turns back on after recharging etc) our internet will instantly struggle.

I notice it when Im on the Xbox, if Im on FIFA, the game will start to lag and I will be disconnected from the EA servers. I then try and search for another game only for the latency bar ingame to constantly show as red.

At this stage I run a speed test and the ping is up at 400+ and the download speed drops to about 1mb where it usually is at 12mb.

I also ran packet loss checks through the Xbox One and using a UO trace and its up at 60%.

The only way I can fix it is by resetting the router and even sometimes this doesnt work. Ive already been sent out a replacement router and I get the impression I know more about the tech side of things than Vodafone support.

Anyone any ideas what could be causing this?

Your own post makes the issue clear, the phone is the problem.

Check for dropbox or icloud uploading on it for a.first step.

The phone is most likely backing up photos or videos to the cloud and using all the upstream bandwidth. If you max your upload you will not be able to browse

Thanks for the replies. Will check this. When I reset the router it usually fixes it though. If that was the case it wouldnt be the phone causing the problem, just a crap router or internet surely?

It would interrupt the process. Same thing for torrents etc. Networking code will take a while usually to reconnect, then slow ramp up to max upload.

It could also be the device flooding the router in some way, but that'd be tricker to diagnose.
