Recovery mode for android tablet

A friend's tablet, bought in UK, has had the password changed (possibly by one of her kids) and she's forgotten it. I was trying to do a factory reset by various methods suggested elsewhere, like hold down volume up while pressing power. None worked, but I did get it to say it was in 'safe mode'. I don't know what that is for a tablet, but it didn't seem to help, as it still wanted a password.

    Any suggestions? It is a 9" @tab 16GB, model @TAB9-QC-16

The USB socket is broken, so solutions involving that won't help

You can wipe it remotely from here - https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager

That will presumably require the device to be in range of a wifi access point it has previously connected to (or one I can fake a clone of....), and me to know the google account details of the owner?

She is rather less technical than a very untechnical person on a non-technical day!

Ah. Without the recovery mode keys, there's not much you can do..

I can get the details I mentioned above. If if I fake a wifi access point it knows about, would it have connected to it before it aks for a password?

Before you can use Android Device Manager, you have to enable it on your device and associate your device with your Google account. If more than one person uses a tablet, only the tablet owner can turn on Android Device Manager.

This is unlikely to have happened.

Few months ago, I too faced the data loss issue with my android device i used Android Safe eraser to regain the access to my phone.

I had forgotten about this tablet, good old zombie resurrection! I don't believe your suggestion would apply to a tablet you can't get past the password request.
