I'm to return to work soon after a prolonged absence due to many issues, some work related (mostly resolved now) and also because I developed some depression over the last 3 yrs.
I've been on Meds and going to counselling for the last year, its certainly helped and I intend to continue.
Question is....if it was you....Would you inform the company you work for?

I did. It didn't help in my case. They tried to convince me it was my personal issues and basically told me to find something else. Not saying you'll end up in the same position and wishing you all the best.

I've seen questions like this come up here before and the general consensus seems to be that it's better to say nothing. Not all employers have an enlightened attitude to mental health issues so it could work against you. A lot of people would also take the view that it's none of their business and that the less they know about your private life the better.

With some regret, I have to agree with the other responses. It should be okay, even helpful, to tell your employer, but there is a danger that it would work against you.

Good luck on your return to work.

If you have an occupational health service iv found they are quite good - one situation the occupational health worker over reacted but in all or circumstances I've had no issues

As long as it isn't interfering with your work I would keep quiet. Not all employers understand mental health and they might think that it will impeed on you preforming as expected.

I agree with the other posters and would not tell them.
At the end of the day they don't need to know.
Unless someone has experienced depression or knows someone close with it, they won't understand.
