    Hi Folks,
I'm a Nordie applying for an Irish passport.
The form is asking me for my PPSN.

Is that my PPS? I have a National Insurance number up here.
I worked in Dublin for a software company between 2002-2003.
**** knows where those payslips are now.
How do I find out my PPS number?

    Cheers!

The tax office for wherever you worked might be worth a try.

I worked for a software company for ~16 months, (university placement), ending about August 2003. Will they still have me on record?

Or you could stop faffing around with PPS nos and get a UK passport.

    Contact one of these

My wife last worked here in the 70s they found her PPS in about 30 seconds.

    All the best ;)

The application form says something along the lines of "you must enter your PPSN..."

But people have an Irish passport who have never lived, never mind worked here. What do they want?
Also, I'm supposed to have it signed and stamped by my local Guard station. ...I'm in Antrim. So I presume this doesn't apply to me.

    No, ta.

Have you got the right form?

    APS1E Rev 07/13.
My brother posted it up from the south a few days ago.

You're causing yourself heap loads of extra stress for nothing.

Having an Irish passport wont make you any more or less Irish. FFS.

You might have to break in to the Revenue's head office.

I'd be investing in a crowbar and a hammer if I were you.

That is for Republic of Ireland residents. You need form APS2.

It is a sense of identity. Like people aligning to a religion. However, that's not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is to help me to fill in the form correctly. :)

When the plane you're on gets hijacked. They shoot the yanks first then the Brits.

When you decide to go hiking along the Iranian border and forget how to map read - then you'd be grateful for that time and trouble spent :)

    Because Ireland doesn't upset anyone.

Thank you! My apologies, you are correct. I have a APS2E, from the local post office. I've been reading through my APS1E (that my brother posted up) which I was reading through for the details. I didn't realise there was a different form.

Back to reading the details! :)

Is there an option for Irish or British on the standard NI application?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭Reoil

For the record, I'm applying for an Irish passport because I feel that I am Irish, not "British". Also, I feel that it may make travelling easier, come passport control/general politeness. Simple as that.

There is no NI application. As part of the UK, you have to choose UK or Irish.

APS2: "This may be left blank as it is only required from persons living in the state".

Thank you! I can't believe I posted in AH actually and got help. No "yer ma!" or anything!

AH, thank you. (Mostly to dxhound2005, and kneemos!).

You might want to get a British passport as well. I remember hearing on the Radio Ulster consumer programme that someone who presented an Irish Passport as ID when trying to open a bank account in Belfast was turned away. That bank required UK citizens to have a UK passport for ID purposes if they wanted to use a passport as their ID.

There might be other circumstances like that.

I have two bank accounts, a mortgage, Christmas and a trip to Iceland to organise - the second passport can take a back seat at the moment! :)
