Craigslist.com has become the default location for Classified ads, places to rent, cars to buy, jobs etc etc.

We have been over that side many times as my wife's moved down to the Cape from St Paul MN many years ago. This is the year to go as our four year old daughter will be starting school next year. The boxes have been shipped and my wife and daughter are set to fly on the 8th of January. I won't be too far behind as I've to get things sorted here with the house. Feel free to pm me if I can help you out with anything.

I would say that we are more than likely going to use whichever plan the in law's are on as part of their shared package. If I was going it alone, however, I would look into the likes of metro pcs and ting. If you have an unlocked phone then bring it. I recently bought a dual sim Android phone http://http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057312038
It's important that I have data for Google maps which I've just started using. I also have my lumia 820 on standby as it's hard to beat the Nokia maps for Offline use.

I'd love to change to a nexus 5 or 6 as I just sold my 7 and bought a 9. I had read before about caching the Google maps but I think you need to be online if you reroute or make a wrong turn.
Have you decided on a car? We may have use of her parents cars initially and I think herself has been promised a smoker from a family member. I've only ever driven diesels here and I'm a big fan of estate cars. So my choices are very limited to maybe a voljswagon passat or a jetta sports wagon. I had a Renault scenic for a while and hated driving it so I may steer clear of the mini vans.

Me too. There aren't too many here these days, and they just stopped making mine, but you can still find them - Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon.

They have bikes on board so Ill get around on those for a bit.Hopefully I'll be heading out to sea after a few months so Ill have no use for a car.

What is the general attitude of the people like ? I joined a few forums and it wasn't great. One turned in to a bitching match about which part of Florida was the best.I found it really hard to get any decent info from them.It took an English couple to pm me to learn about the area. They even said Ill find it hard to get anything from them, which I found a bit odd.

That car is fantastic looking. I've never even seen them on the road over there. I was looking at some nasty dodge estate thing. I need to investigate that cadillac further!

My father in law advised me against cycling over there. I did ship over my bike (although the shipping company said they would pack it flat, then couldn't do it so decided to charge me full whack for the way it was!). He said that Cape coral is full of old retired people and that they would run me over! I will start with the dedicated trails and around Sanibel and Captiva island. That's one reason for wanting a station wagon (getting into the lingo now) so that it's low enough to have the bikes on the roof as oppose to a mini van or even throw my own one into the back with the seats down. I took a good few years off from cycling and only started again last year after getting a Giant for small money. So I won't have as much confidence or skill as I used to.

    MOD NOTE:
OP has stated they will not be getting a car. I have split most of the posts discussing cars into their own thread here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057344046#

Stick to the Bay side or the Gulf side of St Petersburg. Anywhere in between is kind of dodgy. A lot of shootings and muggings. Quiet afew Cops killed up that way over the last 10 yrs.
