The best WWE PPV of all time?

Im just recently getting re familiarised with WWE after a year sabbatical and sporadic ones from the product over the years, so all feedback on this topic would be great.

What, in your opinion, is the best WWE PPV of all time?

    Some of mine would include

SummerSlam 2013: Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk, Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena,

    Wrestlemania 20

    Wrestlemania 6, purely for nostalgia

SummerSlam 2002: Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H, Brock Lesnar vs. Rock, Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle

Money In The Bank 2011: CM Punk vs. John Cena, Money in the Bank Ladder Match with Daniel Bryan, Money in the Bank Ladder Match with Alberto Del Rio, Randy Orton vs. Christian

WrestleMania 19: Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle, The Rock vs. Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho, Hulk Hogan vs. Vince McMahon.

    WrestleMania 17: Enough said!

720p on the WWENetwork.com not good enough for you? :pac:

In Your House: Canadian Stampede is always worth a mention.

Just copy the link between the two youtube tags like these
    .

It's a great show but i'm not sure how the main event will come across without all the context with all that it's one of the best WWE matches of the last 10 years.

I was trying to be more original with my answer, rather than saying WM 17 or WM 19.

WM 30 was a solid show from top to bottom.

Yes but I asked for the best of all time, not just "solid" ;)

WM 30 isnt even in the top 30 best PPVs of all time, let alone the best.

Summerslam 2002 for me, just stacked and came off so well

I'm on me own here but I never really liked WM17, especially the main event

SummerSlam 2013 is one of the greatest of all time as well, in my opinion. I thought at the time that maybe I was just getting caught up in it all. But I feel a year later it still stands up well.

There's only one correct answer and that's Wrestlemania 17

"And in this bout, there will be nooooooooo disqualifications"

    "WHAT?? WHEN WAS THAT ADDED???"

*glass smashes, place goes nuts as Stone Cold walks out.

    What a moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

It was a great pay per view, but definitely not the only contender for the title. I find that it relied a bit too much on excessive violence. I mean, the main event would probably still have been great if they hadn't added the no disqualification stipulation. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it, and it is one of the WrestleManias I have seen more than others, but I don't think it is even the best WrestleMania. I love WrestleMania II though, so maybe I'm just a weird bastard.

There is no way WWE have had 30 ppvs better than mania 30..in terms of moments in time that people will still be talking about 20 years from now mania 30 will be near the top.

You mentioned mania 20 in your op but I was at mania 20 and 30 and 30 was a far better produced show imo.

Canadian Stampede followed by SummerSlam 1997, WWF were on a roll around that time I think.

Survivor Series 2001 has got to be up there, what a main event.

WMIII : Savage v Steamboat for the IC Title set a benchmark and was the first real show stealing match of the WM franchise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,882 ✭✭✭✭Rock Lesnar

In your house Canadian Stampede is up there for me, i always remember the crowd noise when the hart foundation made their entrance, and then when Austin walked out, as a big Austin fan, i loved his reaction to it, he just revelled in the boos, and the match also didnt disappoint,

I remember Taka Michinoku v the great sasuke been a terrific match to. HHH v Mankind was'nt bad either, Taker v Vader was probably the worst match on the card considering the quality of the others.

After that its WM17, every match was a good match, the TLC match was just mind boggling, JR and Heyman on commentary were excellant as well.

    Wrestlemania 3, Hogan vs Andre

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,474 ✭✭✭deadybai

Wrestlemania 17 hands down. Everything about that PPV was perfect. People say the ending was bad but watching live was jaw dropping. Also the Rock vs Stone Cold promo was the greatest ever. Dont care what people say but that was the biggest match in WWE history. Two guys equally loved and in their prime and a massive rivalry over 3-4 years. WWE peaked at WM17.

    My second choice is WM19.

People saying Summerslam 2013 really? A good PPV with a great ending but not the best PPV of all time.

In my opinion 2002 was the best year for PPVs. Summerslam, Armaggedon and Survivor Series were all brilliant.

Wrestlemania 23 for me. probably not a great ppv all over but I really taught that Taker's reign wsa over dat night against da Animal Batista. so its best for me for the memories it brough to me

Me eyes were hanging out of my head with tireness waiting for their match. Complete edge of the seat stuff. 2007 and not as much internet around on phiones and stuff - it was great getting texts and stuff da next day discussing it - was vry relieved that Taker kept the streak

Summerslam 2002. Basically a dream card.

SummerSlam 2002 was a great card, but I think Shawn Michaels' return gets a little too overrated.

Watched Michaels and Trple H last night based on this thread and it was great. That backbreaker from Triple H to Shawn looked genuinely dangerous given the condition Michaels' back was in at the time.

Wrestlemania 17 is the only answer it was fricking amazing. Quality match after match.
I remember stone cold shaking vinces hand it was shocking, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Well I will say it straight out that both of those performers turned me off of them due to their styles and their politicking over the years so that effects my view a lot.

Apart from Summerslam 2002 and WM 17 I'd like to give Summerslam 1998 a mention.

Great opener for the European title between two workhorses in D'Lo Brown and Val Venis.

Fun comedy match with Kai En Tai taking on the Oddities in a 4 on 3 match.

    Edge's PPV debut.

Outlaws vs Mankind in a HArdcore Tag Title handicap match.

Owen Hart vs Shamrock in the Lion's Den.

Ladder match for the IC title between two stars on the brink. HHH vs Rock.

Face vs face in Taker vs Austin for WWE title.

Plus awesome set and theme tune in Highway to Hell.

Backlash 2000 was one PPV I always remember

2000 was a great year, Summerslam that year was perfect IMO, great promos and wrestling involved and decent comedy matches.

Right to Censor vesus too Cool Six-man tag team match
    X-Pac versus Road Dogg
Chyna and Eddie Guerrero versus Val Venis and Trish Stratus (intercontinental title)
    Jerry Lawler versus Tazz
Steve Blackman versus Shane McMahon (hardcore match) (Shane's fall in that match was crazy)
Chris Benoit versus Chris Jericho - Two out of three falls match
Edge and Christian vs The Hardy Boyz vs The Dudley Boyz - Tables, Ladders, and Chairs
The Kat (with Al Snow) defeated Terri (with Perry Saturn) - Stinkface match
    The Undertaker vs. Kane
The Rock vs Kurt Angle vs Triple H (with the whole Stephanie McMahon - kurt- HHH love triangle)

Those two used to put on brilliant matches. Just good old fashioned technical wrestling.
Agree that was one of the best ever PPV definitely forgot about all those matches.

I found No Way out 2001 a good PPV. Austin v HHH in 3 stages of Hell, Rock and Angle and a decent hardcore title match.

Trying to think of ones others haven't already said.

Invasion and Royal Rumble 2000 in my eyes were brilliant and still hold up. Rumble had a great card with two great matches in the Tag Team Tables match with Dudleys Vs Hardys (The true precursor to any of the TLC or ladder matches) and the violent Foley Vs HHH Street Fight. The Rumble match itself is also well paced and features a good showing from Rikishi, who was sort of just still in the honeymoon period of his full time return to WWF. Dark spot being the swimsuit competition obviously, but it also gives context to what was considered entertainment back then in the Golden Age of South Park and Limp Bizkit.

Invasion is probably more so a case of me looking back with rose-tinted glasses. The first PPV to feature newly acquired WCW (and the re-branded ECW stars most of which had already been in WWF for a good while at this stage) talent in a "official" standpoint. It was fresh and exciting and the dream that came through for all wrestling fans of the time (or at least for me). After this event the storyline turned out to be one of the most misguided storylines ever in WWE history. But the buzz, nostalgia and excellent Hardy-RVD Hardcore match still makes this stand out for me.

Agreed, lots of 4-star PPVs being mentioned. The 5* ones have already been mentioned.

Oh, Heatwave 98 I'd class as a Five-star PPV. Excellent, even coming from a guy who didn't watch ECW.

If we are including ECW in this then Anarchy Rulez 2000 is also a good shout.

2001 was the best year for WWE PPVs, Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, No Way Out, Summerslam, Survivor Series etc. All great great shows. WM 17 is my favourite wrestlemania.
