A good article about juice detoxing. Advertisements and tweets by health stores and strength and conditioning experts recommending juice detox have bothered me for a long time. A well known health store in Dublin provides a juice detox over a few days for 85 euro. They're laughing at their customers all the way to the bank

And why shouldn't they? As long as the demand for quick fixes exists, somebody will profit from it. I stopped caring about it a long time ago tbh.

The problem is not the companies, it's the people who want the quick fix. It takes effort to implement the lifestyle required for sustainable weight loss and well being, some people would prefer to pay for a 'shortcut'.

In their defence they go into these stores because they are recommended by their p.t. and then they trust these individuals to give them sound advice and to use language that directly reflects what the product achieves 'cleanse' 'detox' it sounds good, then they aren't offered alternatives. They don't know any better what should they do?

That's fair enough in the case of professionals recommending it actually, they want a slap.

Should be illegal to advertise in this way. Plus opens the gateway to loads of woo.

Maybe it's just me but I think there's a bit more publicity around nutritional nonsense lately, I've especially noticed it with 'detox'. It's unfortunate that the seeming increase in affection for and acceptence of science - such as the cosmos TV show, the I fúcking love science facebook page, the sci-fi and nerd culture becoming more mainstream etc, that this increased knowledge in astronomy, physics, biology etc. and the critical thinking skills that come with them hasn't percolated down to nutrition, where people could do with them most!

A perceived quick fix will win out over the thought of effort over a period of time more than 30 days all too often.
