UK getting an Irish passport

    Hi Folks,
My UK passport has expired, and I'm looking to get an Irish passport.
My mother was born in the Republic. I know (think) I need her birth certificate and marriage certificate. I can get those.

Is there anything else I need to know when applying for an Irish passport?
Any advice? Things to look out for?

The form talks about getting photos signed and stamped by a person at a local Guard station - I presume that doesn't apply to me.
I know a member of the PSNI who I intend to sign my photos.

The form also asks for my PPSN, I presume this is the equivalent to my UK National Insurance number? Do I submit my UK NI number?
I worked in Dublin in 2002-2003, so had a PPS number - I have no idea what it is now or how long it lasts for, or if it is relevant in this case.

    Any help?

    Cheers!

You will have your PPS number for life. If they ask you to submit your Irish PPS number, that is what you submit. If you don't remember what it is, contact the Dept of Social Protection. They will either tell it to you over the phone (if you meet certain Data Protection requirements) or they will post you out a letter containing it.

It's asking for my "PPSN" though - is that my UK national insurance number?

Born abroad to Irish-born parent - you should include:
    •Your birth certificate
•Your civil marriage or civil partnership certificate (if you have changed your surname)
    •Your Irish-born parent’s birth certificate
    •Your parents’ civil marriage certificate

if your looking for free education in uk

you have to have held a irish address for last 3 year

I doubt it. In Ireland, you have a PPS number. Perhaps the N in PPSN stands for 'Number' ?

Nope, but it will be on any of your old pay slips from the previous job if you can find them.

I'm not looking for education. Just the passport.

But people who have never worked, even been, in Ireland can get an Irish passport, so surely it can't be linked to having been living here?

Thread closed as the op has another semi-related thread open in After Hours right here.

    Thanks,
