Oil filter - orientation?

    Just opened up oil filter on supply line to boiler to check it and want to double-check which way round it goes before I put it back - yeah, feeling a bit silly alright for not remembering!! Filter is in awkward place so not possible to eye it and work out that way. Filter is typical type used in this country and real question is whether the wide open end of the cylindrical mesh part faces up towards the cover or down towards the reservoir?
