No,there is a change to the start.Basically first .75 miles is different and after that it remains the same but finishes that .75 miles shorter. This was forced on us by local gardai that didn't wan't the race going down the road of the old finish.

Have a Dungarvan and Ballycotton entry so I better get in here too... Missed out last year

This sold out last year in January and currently is more than half full. Last year we had a big rush over the space of 48 hours so if you want to be sure of securing a place it's best to get in now because it looks almost certain that it will be gone by the end of this month. Treat yourself to a new year's present and give yourself a goal to aim for. Ten miles is certainly achievable for new runners.:)

This basic plan is aimed at newer or non-club runners who just want to 'get around'. There is no speed work in the form of intervals or tempo runs. It's a basic plan for those who aspire to complete a 10 mile race without stopping.

Starting from tomorrow, hopefully it will be helpful for any novices out there.

    http://corkrunning.blogspot.ie/2014/12/10-mile-get-around-training-plan.html

If you want to enter the race, it's only 18e up until the end of this month, much more affordable than many races of a similar distance.

S'funny, on Running In Cork blog site it says that only 600 of 1500 spaces are currently gone as of 5.1.15. Someone's telling porkies. #createafalsesupplyscenariotoinduceafrenzyofregistrations :)

Just over 300 places left out of the 1500. There has been a surge in the last few days.

Just a last reminder about the Mallow 10 entries as they are about to close. As of Thursday night (22nd Jan), there are fewer than 200 places left.

It's interesting to note that the level of interest in this 10 mile road race seems to be up again this year.

In 2013, the 1,200 entries were full by the 6th of March.

In 2014, the 1,200 entries were full by the 30th of January.

And here we are in 2015 and it's likely the 1,500 places will be gone by the 24th of January. That's an extra 300 places and closing a week earlier.

Personally I rather not enter until closer to the event (3 or 4 weeks out), and I would hazard a guess most other runners would be of a similar mind set. But with the relentless count down of the number of places left, a registration rush is created especially when "only 200 places left" statements are being issued. So I don't see it as an "increased level of interest" rather "I better register earlier than what I had intended, or there won't be any places left" situation. I've run this 10 miler many times over the last number of years (and I think it is a fabulous event ,despite not receiving the tech top in the post for 2014 event {but I won't go there}) but looks like I will be missing out this year unless there is "one place left" around Valentines Day.

I tend to agree with you re creating a "rush" for the event but sadly this seems to be the norm with any event that is likely to sell out.

In any case stop being so indecisive and just sign up to the event if you like it so much. What difference is 2 or 3 weeks going to make to you.

Number showed up yesterday, will be interesting to see what if any difference the modified course makes. I've always thought it's a small bit easier than Ballycotton.

Looking good for Sunday folks, remember to leave the heavy stuff at home, it might get warm.
Just a quick look ahead to the Mallow 10 mile road race next Sunday the 22nd of March 2015.

Weather......The current forecast is that it will be a mild dry day with a gentle breeze from the south-west. Should be a mixture of clouds and sunshine. Conditions should be pretty good for running fast times although it may feel a little warm if there is a lot of sunshine. It's forecast to be about 10-12 deg C.

Almost certainly, you shouldn't be wearing layers of clothes. At the recent Ballycotton 10 race, it was obvious from the photos that some of the newer slower runners were wearing way too much. Full length leggings and jackets are a no-no. If you wear just enough so that you feel slightly cold at the start line then that's about right.

As you can see from the map above, the course is much the same as last year except that that start line is closer to race HQ while the finish line is further away.

You can find maps and a preview of the course here... http://munsterraceroutes.blogspot.ie/2013/01/cork002.html

All the info about pacers, chip timing, etc is up on the race website... http://mallowtenmile.wordpress.com/

Have to say this was a great race today. Well organised. Good course. Well marshalled. Nice feed afterwards. Small gripe with the tight start but that's only a minor thing. It's no worse than the start at ballycotton.
    Well done Mallow AC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,463 ✭✭✭run_Forrest_run

a really well organised race. OK the start was tight but I must admit, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, once we passed the start line things got moving well, definitely not as bad as Ballycotton.

I had a terrible day at the office but that's my problem :(

Mallow must be the best race in terms of organisation, facilities (excellent spread in the large hall after and lots of other places to grab a bite in the town) and convenience (lots of parking).

I'll be back next year (and running faster hopefully).

Thought this was a brilliantly organised race. As mentioned the start was tight but they knew that themselves and did as much as they could to alleviate it. A fair route too - couldn't fault it... Found the going tough myself and found it warmer than I thought it would be but we can hardly blame Mallow for that. Well done Mallow AC, nicely done.

For sure it's a great event! Thought the same actually, start was a bit congested but looks like people placed themselves far more sensibly than Ballycotton which always looks like a free for all to me :)

After a bit of a tumble in the Tralee marathon the previous w/end I was a bit worried about some part of me falling off but everything stayed attached thankfully.

well organised race and really enjoyed it over all. the first mile was rather tough and the start was a bith similar to ballycotton.
Once you got passed the first couple of miles , it was fairly ok. a few drags near the end were tough but was happy to break 70 minutes again.
Weather was great also. I went with the 70 minute pacers who paced it to perfection. Well done
One of the best races around. Well done Mallow AC

This was my first 10 mile. Absolutely chuffed to have finished it. Really enjoyed the day. It was well organized and all the stewards and volunteers were so helpful. The weather was the icing on the cake!

Not a bit upset about the time Opus?

Well done Mallow AC. This is fast turning into one of the best races on the calendar for me. Even though the start seemed tight enough I had no problems whatsoever as everyone seemed to be in the correct coral (for a change). Organized extremely well on a great course.
