So, I've switched to Android twice before to... not great results:

HTC One X (terrible battery life)
Samsung Galaxy S4 (Terrible battery + touchwiz)

For me, I find these important:

    Good specs
Big but not too big screen
    Great camera
Great battery (at very least, it'll last 24 hours)

I'm torn between a Sony Z3/Compact, HTC One M8, OnePlus One and Nexus 5. What do you guys recommend?

LG G2 or if you have extra cash the G3.

Great battery life on the G2 for me and the Camera is pretty decent.

1+1 All day everyday, definely up there with the best androids. Xiaomi Mi4 wouldn't be one to skip either

OnePlusOne is what I see recommended a lot.

I got an HTC One M8 today. Very happy so far. It's actually really fast, too. But I used to have an Xperia J so the spec difference is huge. That might be why I'm so amazed with it.

One thing I'd do is go into a phone shop and get a feel for each phone size. I don't think you can do that with the OnePlusOne, though. I think it has to be ordered online.

I'll let you know how the battery is on the HTC One M8 if you'd like. I only use it on WI-FI, though.

HTC M8. Excellent battery, make sure you turn on Power Saver mode, you'll get over a day of heavy use out of it.

Bought the OnePlus today, thanks for the recommendations guys!

Those specs in that body for €360 new? Couldn't top it!

    Sony Z2.

-available cheap but pretty much as good as the Z3 as sony release 2 models a year unlike the other brands.
-Amazing battery life - 1.5 to 2 days possible easily with stamina mode on
    -Great camera
    -Waterproof
-3gb ram and fast processor - never lags for me
    -micro sd slot
    -great screen
-I think that the modern (on Z2) UI is not intrusive (like samsung touchwiz for example). updates reasonably quick with Sony (Samsung terrible) and they support longer. e.g. sony Z is getting andorid L and that phone is 2 years old almost.
-not too big. one + a little too big IMO

minus point is that it can heat up if shooting 4k video for more than 5 minutes but that's not an issue for me.

I think that it looks and feels great. imo white is the colour to get it in (front will be all black even on the white one). glass front and back and metal on sides.

I got it for 380 euro on vodafone ready to go. sim locked.

360 euro now I see on amazon.de, sim free.

They're very prone to issues showing up out of nowhere I.e. self cracking screens, overheating cameras

phone only overheats when shooting 4k video for a long time.

have had no issues on screen myself. what is the % rate...? low I would say.

if you're worried, get a 5 euro tempered glass protector.
