    Hey,
I'm in need of new tyres for my car.
I've been quoted the following, fitted:
    Hilfly 73
    Nexen 110
    Nankang 110
    Firestone 145
    Hankook 160
    Bridgestone 165
    Michelin 195

I'd obviously avoid the hifly, but any recommendations?
also apparently can't get all season, so opting for summer.

    Cheers!

I always say Uniroyal RainExpert/Rainsport, so will say it again:

Firestones are a good tyre. Depends on your budget. Firestone on the driven axle and nankangs on the other would be the minimum setup I'd go for.

Did you check prices online? camskill, eiretyres, oponeo

Any idea where to source around south Dublin?

Goodyear Eagle F1s here for €153 a corner:

    http://www.oponeo.ie/details-tyre/goodyear-eagle-f1-asymmetric-2-245-40-r18-93-y#76285416

Allow about €50 extra for fitting and balancing.

Discount Tyres in Blachardstown always get recommended around here and are competitive with online prices, if you want to buy from a bricks and mortar place.

Nope, I get mine online at the usual places.
Search eiretyres in the forum and you'll get thread for places.

I took your recommendation and put 2 on the front of my car a few weeks ago and they are a fantastic tyre with low noise and great grip. They cost me 90 euro a corner for 235/45/17 of Oponeo.ie plus 20 quid to fit and balance..

I've the same car and tyre size and recently replaced all four corners.
When I bought my car it had 4x Bridgestone Potenza S001 on it and they were a lovely tyre.
I replaced the front two with Hankook Ventus V12s at one point and wouldn't rate them - handling was not quite as good, they wore faster and needed more frequent air top-up than I think should be required.
I'm now on 4x Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE002 and happy out.

When you get a quote such as 'Bridgestone 160' ask for the full tyre spec too as there is a fair difference in characteristics between say Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin and Bridgestone Turanza though the pricing could be similar enough depending on where you are looking.

    These look like great value:

Also "AO" which means they're Audi original spec - worth a look.

€550 for a set of premium 18" tyres fitted seems pretty reasonable!

+5, +6 and +7 for Oponeo, great choice, great prices great service with delivery within a week for me.
I replaced 4 X 20" on my A6 for less than €200 a corner earlier this year and had no problems getting them fitted and balanced locally and the Audi garages wanted anywhere between €300 to €400 each?

What did you put on it at that price? Curiosity more than anything.

Herself has been driving the car for the last few months and has said the tyres always feel as though they were under inflated. Take it for a spin a couple of times now and I find the RS3s to give a very floaty and detached feeling and leave little confidence in them. Which is strange as I found the 2s amazing for the price previously.
Yes, this is a known "issue" with them. They can feel a bit floaty because the sidewalls are a little soft. I just inflate a little extra.

Pirelli P Zero's which was what was originally on and they have never let me down and I go so far to say that they are a very good all rounder for Irish weather and roads. Very sure footed in both the wet and dry.

Could that be because you needed reinforced walls for your car?

That's a cracking price to be fair.

With the current morning/evening temps I started looking at all weather tyres....cant find anything online suitable other than Star Performa which dont float my boat.

    Any ideas?
I've noticed a real drop off in grip on the front with the colder weather (albeit the tread is low)

    /edit
I've looked at eiretyres, oponeo & camskills

Low tread would give you worse handling on wet surface only (due to aquaplaning).

There's nothing really worth looking at online sellers have in stock in size you mentioned in OP. Maybe consider go winters?

The Falken's seem by far the best review wise...but I dont know them at all.

I just can't see the business case for all weather tyres in Ireland's climate.

    My recommendation.
People who are based on the flat coastal areas of Ireland would be better served with quality summer tyres year round. If you are based up in the hills or country there would be benefit to running full winters for a short period with summer tyres for the rest of the year.

All weather tyres just seem to be too much of a compromise at either end of the spectrum for me?

Well I dont think I need full winters, for the couple of days of actual snow on the ground I either wont be driving or will be crawling.
Summer would be great, but Im often driving before 7am and after 9pm, right when its brass monkeys outside.

For a long time in Ireland the ground temps are below 7* for 5-6 months per year, on daily average, probably a couple of months more where the morning/evening temps are also low.

I guess Im just concerned about the grip dropping off a cliff during my commutes for half the year?

That said, the tyres above are all summer tyres as pneus dont seem to offer all season, either winter or summer (3 season).

Falkens have quite a good reputation and I can actually confirm that myself, having falkens on both my car and Ms. jou's car as well. :)

But bear in mind I'm a weird person, because I've 2 sets of wheels (summer and winter) and swap them on demand. :D

Agreed. 2-3psi extra makes a huge difference to their stability in cornering and braking.
