Bloody annoying click

    Hi all,

I've recently developed an annoying click, mainly when pedalling hard, both in and out of saddle (tho mostly in). I've tried everything I can think off, including re-greasing bottom bracket bearings and threads, checking headset, checking all bolts etc are tightened correctly, no rubbing cables, servicing wheel bearings, and checking cleats and bolts on shoes. Seems to be from BB so getting to point of just biting bullet and putting in new one, current has about 3000 miles in it. Can anyone suggest anything else I can try in case new BB doesn't sort it.

Also I've an FSA mego exo BB and FSA omega crankset and while I'm pretty sure I'm stuck with using an FSA BB, unless I change crankset, does anyone know if there is an alternative to FSA that will be compatible with the FSA crankset.

    Cheers

Have you tried greasing the threads of the pedals? I had a creaking noise under hard pedaling and tried much that you mentioned including changing the bottom bracket, but no joy. Then following advice from a thread here greased the pedal threads and success. Worth a shot.

I get this quite often from the pedals (no noise until I pedal hard). The reasons for the click tend to vary but replacing the pedals and/or pedal axle if it's damaged has usually worked for me.

Greasing your pedals would be a start.

OP, what pedals are you using.

    Knees?

    Chainring bolts?

FSA Omega has a 19mm spindle, which is quite unusual. Most current cranksets have 24mm or 30mm. I haven't come across any other manufacturer who makes a compatible BB.

I had some FSA BB/Crankset once on my first road bike. It clicked like a mo'fo'. The shop replaced it for an Ultegra one.

I had something similar on my FSA gossamer crankset and it turned out to be 2 loose chainring bolts, they were only very slightly loose but once they were tightened properly the click went away.

As strange sounds go a click isn't so bad. Over the last couple of days my bike has developed the sound of a goat bleating!

I pedal normally and everything is okay, when I stop pedalling the freewheel clicks merrily, but sometimes this loud vibration sound like a goat bleating starts to emanate from somewhere on the bike. I am confident that there are no farmyard animals hiding anywhere in the bike, so I'm thinking something is loose.

I had a problem with the headset coming loose when I first got the bike, but the headset seems tight. The brakes don't appear to be rubbing anywhere. I've reseated the wheels in the drop outs.

The noise occurs when the pedals are not being turned, so I'm not worried about the bottom bracket, but I think I can actually feel the vibration through the pedals.

Could the sound be coming from the spokes? I'm not sure why the bike doesn't make any noise when it is being pedalled if it is the spokes that are the problem.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd settle for an annoying click at this point!

I had an annoying click coming from my foot striking part of the mount for a rear light. It was one of those ones that tighten kinda like a belt - the excess length stuck out a bit and the back of my heel used to catch it. IIRC it was only when seated ; my foot must take up a slightly different position when standing. Bugged the sh-one-t out of me until I figured out what it was.

Had a similar clicking/creaking and sent in my bike for a service on the BB and headset. Bearings replaced and it was still there. Just by chance I'd adjusted my seatpost height later and the tone changed. Took out the post and applied some grease, problem sorted.

Had a click myself too - poped out both wheels, cleaned the drops and applied a little bit of grease and put in wheels again, perfect since.
