I'm looking to buy a car at some stage that comes in way over on the vrt calculator. It states the omsp is 2000 when I've yet to see one go for over1k. It doesnt list the tdi version only the td so the rate is at 28% instaed of 19% due to the higher emmisions. This means vrt is 580 instead of 190. Is there anyway to appeal this or present a case for paying a much lower rate?

Any VRT appeal can only be lodged after paying the initial fee.

Also there is a minimum VRT amount:

It should be further noted that there are specified minimum VRT charges on the registration of VRT category A vehicles, ranging from €280 to €720 depending on the CO2 emissions. The minimum charge in the case of a VRT category B vehicle is €125
