If you could erase the memory of one game...

...what game would it be? Before the clever members start suggesting: Ride to Hell Retribution, etc. I am referring to games that you thoroughly enjoyed and wished you could go back and play all over again without any knowledge of the game.

I know this will be tricky as there are quite simply so many games out there, but try to narrow it down to one and explain why.

For me, I had a short list of:

    Knights of the Old Republic
    Half-Life 2
    Medal of Honour: Allied Assault
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
    Mass Effect
    Unreal Tournament
    World of Warcraft

However, Knights of the Old Republic wins overall. I love Star Wars and I was a huge fan of BioWare after Neverwinter Nights so it was the perfect coupling. Then, when I actually started playing it I couldn't get enough. The icing on the cake was the twist, you know? That twist. Very few games have ever had such an impact on me like that, to totally turn my perspective of the game upside down through nothing but narrative as opposed to an amazing technological feat or impressive cutscene.

Many of the other games on the list are mentioned because they came at key moments in my life and I have fond memories of the time I played them, but KotOR is just that little bit more special. If I could play it all over again without any prior knowledge, I think it would still blow me away!

So, what would your game be and why?

Definitely The last of us. I would love to be playing through that again for the first time. I got it on release and liked it so much, I played through the campaign three times in a row. I bought the HD remake last night for the 12 days of Christmas sale, that's the Christmas holidays sorted anyways.

Probably in the last few years it was FO: New vegas. Many of the older games I played I probably forget anyway so I don't need to worry about it.

    Easy.

The Walking Dead, telltale game. Even though I bought it, I could never bring myself to play through it again as it would hurt the previous play through so much. Really emotionally attached to that game and have never before after had the same experience with another. Amazing. Would love to be starting it all over again and not knowing what's going to happen.

Fallout 3, I got it on the strength of a Yahtzee review at the time it came out.

Knew nothing about the franchise, was out xmas shopping and saw it. Got home and started playing and it was 9:30 the following morning before i knew it. :o Nothing In recent memory has come close to exiting the vault for the 1st time and not even knowing it was open world.

Borderlands 2 comes a close second loved my time with it too.

If I could choose to erase only one game, but not friends I made in it. Then it would be wow hands down.
I would kill for getting that magic back that it had when I started as a noob undead warrior in vanilla wow.
I wonder if it was just me being less of a critical and clinical bastard back then or just that it did every right. I. Cannot recapture that magic with any mmorpgs or wow expansion anymore. :(

Skyrim, I did not enjoy this game at all and it was so overhyped.

Such an excellent story. Decent shooter.

    Metroid Prime

That first time exploring Tallon IV the rain hitting the visor.

Super Mario world and its sequel.

    You are a super player.
    Exploration, exploration, platforming perfection.

We regret to inform you that the launch was a catastrophe.
    Low orbit achieved!
We regret to inform you that the mission to the moon was a catastrophe.
    We regret to inform

    ...
    Ad infinitum.

    Advance wars.
    Meteor wtf!!!?

    Metal gear solid.

Concrete Donkey and many other zany things.

    Euro truck simulator 2:
Such initial apprehension, much prior scepticism, yielded by such relaxation and enjoyment?

Zelda a link to the past, simply a masterpiece that I replay regularly.

Also the Half Life series, Morrowind and Oblivion.

Couldn't possibly choose one, but my short list would be:

Mass Effect 1: I've played that game through about 10 times, easily my favourite in the series. It was the first game I played last gen and I just f*cking love it. The mission on Noveria was like nothing I'd ever experienced before.

Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2: Parts are just batsh*t insane. The parts between
the bomb exploding in Shell 2 killing Stillman and Arsenal launching[/spolier] is a passage of gameplay that has always stuck with me. The boss fights with Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Fortune, Vamp, Fatman and the fist fight with Liquid atop Rex and the escape from Shadow Moses in the jeep... Well, I guess I'm replaying these games over Christmas!

Max Payne 2: This game introduced me to my favourite band. I'd love to hear that ending credits song for the first time again. Finding BaseballBat Boy in huge fire towards the end is also pretty harrowing.

It'd probably be the Mass Effect series for me, if I could only pick the one.

If I could pick more, then probably every game I've ever played! :D
