Police recruitment process. HELP!!

Hi. This is my first post on Boards so apologies if its in the wrong place.

I need help with the Police/Garda aptitude tests. I have applied for the police five times. Garda once PSNI twice and the U.K police twice.

I scraped under the pass by no more than 10 points for the aptitude test for both the Garda and PSNI .The U.K poilce wouldn't take me because of residency criteria (even though i was born there!). Same story for the U.S.A (was worth a try)

Ive studied A LOT and no matter what way i do these aptitude test's, i still cant pass it so is there anyone who can give me any advice on how to pass these tests ? is there anyone who's passed these tests on here ?

The police is something i will never give up on as i feel its my place on earth, part of me. I could fly the rest of the recruitment tbh, i have a lot more than enough criteria to be a police officer. Fitness, interview, role plays i look forward too. I just need to pass this aptitude test barrier.

    Many thanks in advance.

Have you considered paying a coach to help you?

In the most polite way possible, if you can't pass the test, you shouldn't get the job!

Although looking at the majority of Gardai I've encountered the test can't be that hard, although maybe it's changed for the new recruitment.

First of all - where are you applying? Maybe you should take one force and stick to it. Are you able to get hold of past exam papers from that force?

With regard to the UK - which forces have you been applying to? Have you applied for the City of London Police or the British Transport Police? I do know different criteria apply to different forces, so I wouldn't give up there. The PSNI might be another good bet.

You should check out the ES forum there sub forums on recruitment both Garda/Garda Reserve/Other ES (Police).

The PSNI will take you if your from the south of Ireland and the UK Police forces will take you once your a resident there two years IIRC.

Thanks for the replys so soon :D .I applied to the Metropol police and Police scotland. both refused me on the same grounds - Residency. Ill consider getting outside help this time around, just trying to find who that's the problem. I literally scrape just under a pass, Marginal really but its a black and white test. pass or fail. in other words im 99.9% there.

As far as getting hold of past exam papers, absolute no go. Tried and was told they couldn't release that information to me.

Coaching may help you like I suggested earlier, but in the end you may have to accept that you are simply not at a level to score sufficiently well in these tests to move into that career and so will need to choose something different tbh.

I know from friends who have applied for both that scraping a pass puts you very low down in the priority list, you need to be in the top 10/20 percent to move on.

If you are not even passing now, it's a big leap to imagine you'll get to that level, it would be like a pass maths leaving student hoping for an A in Honours maths

You may just have to cut your losses and move on

What about going into private security? You'd need the appropriate certs and qualifications, as well as a licence, but it's doable.

Already working in it. Have been for years. Plenty more than just the licence too ;)

The metropolitan police expect you to live there for 3 years directly before applying. Residency is a pretty important part of an application and if you can't see why you shouldn't be applying!
Even as a native they are extremely hard to get into, most people apply many many times.

As has been said the PSNI and gardai are your best bets and there's plenty of information on the es forum about it. It's a really tough process and being fit isn't the most important thing.

During that recruitment process i was told that the residency criteria can be waived under certain circumstances. Plus the fact i was born in the U.K i thought i may have had a chance. There was no harm in trying.

Your completely right. Being fit is only a small part of it. Common sense ,mental strength and a host of other aspects fall into place to be a police officer.

Two things about an aptitude test:
    - You can't study for an aptitude test
    - The results are repeatable

I disagree, you can study. I was useless at them before and done some study on them and some research and vastly improved my chances over what I had previously.
