Try a bit of oil on the key. Keyhole probably never used

I'd be gently and quickly turning the key in either direction till it catches. Also try the key both ways in if you know what I mean.

There's always the chance that the key/lock isn't the original and they don't match.

Does it have double locking? You press the key fob twice and it double locks, if this has happened you may need to get power to the car to disable it. Did you try the lock on the boot?

The only keyhole is on the passenger door (renault influence again!)
They don't have double locking, and if they had the key would override it.

Did you try turning the key anti-clockwise? Mine is an 02 Micra (old shaped Micra) and mine opens by turning it anti-clockwise. Sorry if this is of no help.

Ya i've tried all of the above and nothing works, maybe the door or ignition was replaced sometime.

You'll probably have breakdown cover with your insurance and they can get into the car for you.

I would say though, that I think you should absolutely eliminate the possibility that you're just not getting the key thing right.
