    Hi,

I got a new Chromecast today. Setup fine from Android Mobile Phone.

So i downloaded it for the laptop. Connected to same wifi network, but for some reason the laptop doesnt see the thing.

Has anyone else had such a problem? Its a Windows 7 laptop, brand new and is on home network

Did you switch it off and back on again?

For some reason, laptop sometimes needs to be close to TV to pick up initial reg cast. To be sure, put WiFi router, TV and laptop close together to start off. Less than 5m.

I've never casted anything to my chromecast other than from my phone (note 3) or tablet (nexus 7) op, so am not sure about laptop set up.

You should post this in the Android forum though, the lads there would have this sorted in a flash, no bother.

I found I had to mess around with my firewall settings to get certain stuff working from my laptop to the Chromecast.

A few light taps on the screen with a hammer should have it up and running in no time.

What are you trying to cast? Go to Chrome browser and make sure you have the Chromecast add on. It should display an icon on top right. Click the icon and select 'cast this tab to *****s Chromecast'

Keep turning your mac on and off, it'll fix it eventually.

You'll finally get it working, Cast something once to satisfy yourself and then never, ever use it again, except to show people that you have a chromecast and that it does, in fact, cast stuff to your otherwise sh1t telly.

It seems to take longer for the laptop to find the chromecast than for a phone. Once you have connected the two for the first time though it will run perfectly after that. Get close to the chromecast to find and register on your laptop for the first time and if possible be close enough to router. That seemed to work for me at least.

This is why I have a computer plugged into the tv. Don't have to worry about trying to get things connected up to it.

if you have efibre you need to log onto the modem and go to network settings then wifi then click on wds tab and disable wifi ap

if your modem is not an f1000 then you will need to see if there is a similar option to do this

chromecast needs that disabled to work
