Bought new van last night, happy enough with it and when I was putting a ladder inside it, I close the back door, ladder cracked front window screen in passenger side.

What I'm wanting to know, will I be OK driving around like this untill next test date or is there a possibility I can get fined. Don't want to be splashing out more money just after I bought it and this time of year. I know eventually Itll need replacing when time comes but hopefully I can drive it untilll test date.

Anyone know roughly how much I'll be paying for new front window screen. 04 transit connect. Don't know if its heated or not!

Good chance the insurance would cover it without it counting as a claim, normally covers accidental breakage too.

Would you not be worried that over time the crack will expand and the entire windscreen will shatter on you?

Got my own windscreen on the van done through my insurance Op, hadn't realised I was covered. Commercial policy, dunno if that counts.

Drove it for 12 months beforehand where the crack extended about 12 inches.

I was only insured an hour lol. Phoned up got insured then went to pick up ladders then cracked it. Are you sure it doesn't effect my insurance. I'd rather pay for 2nd hand one rather than get insurance company to get brand new one for me then effect my insurance next year.

I'm third party fire and theft and think my insurance company only covers windscreen with comprehensive insurance. Is there usually much difference in third party and comprehensive insurance? Its something I never take out TBH

It's "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all", just sayin'

Check with a local glass pro, they may have an idea what to do next. Pay it over a few months maybe.
To go from TPTF to comprehensive may be expensive, you need to ask your insurer for a quote.

Most insurance providers cover this. You only have to pay the vat if your vat registered.
If you go into autoglass or any place like that they know which insurers cover new windscreens

    I'm not vat regiesterd thou.

My own insurance company website says free window screen cover with comp insurance so I can't see them covering if I'm TPFT

That was last June no renewal yet(hope it doesn't load my policy)... Paid€27 vat as I'm vat registered, which put it at €200 cost to the windscreen company. VW caddy. No harm in trying direct quotes from various replacement crowds.

Well you wouldn't have to pay the vat if your not registered. You only pay it if your registered so you can claim it back. Some insurance companies allow you to add windscreen cover to tpft policy for about 30 quid but that depends who your with.

    Windscreens don't shatter.
