Where to get nuts for CPU Cooler?

Bit of a strange one.

Opened up an old PC and seen that there was no nuts holding down the CPU cooler. Theres 4 long screws that slot into 4 holes but theres no nuts on the end

Should there be nuts or is there some kind of an X shaped piece of metal that should be there?

Its a no brand CPU Cooler but seem like a good big one with copper piping and large fan attached.

PC keeps cutting out and it seems to be because there is no Fan on CPU.

Picture by any chance? My CPU cooler is bolted in, I would imagine they all should be, they will be running up to 4000rpm so vibrations will be an issue if Uts not bolted tight

Stock coolers have push pin fittings which dont use nuts, but if its a big one it would need to be bolted in to secure.

Not at home now but this is the same design.

Screws that go through springs at each corner. Im not 100% but i think it came out of a Packard Bell kind of pricey PC. My guess would be that it was manufactured by a company that makes that makes good fans but just has no brand on it as its really good and heavy.

So how does this cooler in the picture attach to the board? All i see is 4 holes with nothing to grip the screw. Its like something is missing on the other side of the board.

This is the motherboard. Processor is a Q6600.

On my aftermarket cooler(hyper 212) it came with a bracket that could go over an AMD processor or behind an Intel processor if memory serves correctly. The cooler was then bolted onto this, plan on taking the rig apart tomorrow for a dusting so if I get round to it I will know for definate

Its probably shutting down on CPU high temp as the cooler probably is not making proper contact so its not dissipating heat correctly. Unless you can find a replacement backplate (ebay), you could try to source suitable nuts and plastic washers and fit it that way..thouigh probably easier to get a half decent cooler for 20-30 or second hand.

Can you easily pull the CPU cooler off the CPU? If so, something is missing. If not, it's most likely push in fittings and designed that way. I wouldn't bother trying to source spare parts for a specific cooler, just but a new one for €20.

Yeah its missing a backplate it seems.

I came across this photo as i was looking at something else. Its missing the x shape plate.

Ill probably find it in a years time inside a box somewhere.

Gonna just buy another CPU Cooler altogether.
