An Post UK rates

Right I know this has probably been discussed but I couldn't find enough information.

Basically An Post are killing me with their UK charges. I buy and sell video games and other products on sites like ebay and then I sell them for a higher price on places like Amazon. Very small margins at times and its really just a hobby.

Anyway most video games weight about 120grams. I posted one today and it came in at 106 games. An Post charge me 3.60 each time to post to the UK where 99% of my sales are made. If the item had been 7 grams less it would have been 1.95:( It might not seem like a lot but it is adding up and it makes it hard to keep with people in the UK.

Would the padded envelope weight a lot? Say I was just to stick it in a regular letter, could it shave off 20 or so grams? And is an Post my absolute cheapest option for items of this size?

If they just raised the 1.95 limit by 20 grams I would be on a level footing with those in the uk.

What packaging do you use? The few times I've ordered blurays and games they came in 'lilpackaging' and it seems to be the lightest/cheapest option, maybe that'd help you if you aren't already using them?

Also, before you put the item up for sale, go to the post office and ask how much it'd cost to send to furthest/dearest part of UK and use that price as your default p&p cost when you list it.

Yip , its a pain in the whole. I posted an item to the UK the other day weighing 503 grams ... cost me €8.30 .. 3 grams less would have been €5.80. :(

Go to post office and buy 20 x 1.95 stamps (they print them off) and if its within a few grams, just stick the 1.95 stamp on it.

I've been buying my padded envelopes in Dealz as they are just 18 - 24 cent which is the cheapest I have ever found.

It would be great if they introduced some new rates, for example 2.40 for items under 150grams or 6.80 for items under 600 etc.

This is what I was considering, I just wondered if they weight each item that has been thrown into the letter box?

Its all done automatically, but they don't send it back to you if its only slighty over.

up to 110g and you are fine - even 115g, but I reckon at 120g you may get the odd one sent back to you.
