Opportunities for a clinical psychologist with a doctorate from Australia

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I am British citizen and native English speaker. I have a doctorate in clinical psychology from Australia, a DPsych (clinical). I am fully registered as a clinical psych and currently work in Australia.

I have been thinking about moving to Ireland.

Could anyone give me some advice regarding gaining employment or private practise. Do I have to be a member of PSI or is this not compulsory? Do I have to have my quals assessed or again is this not compulsory?

There is no statutory regulation of psychologists at the moment. (It will be done through Coru.) So at the moment anyone can call themselves a psychologist and set up private practice.

PSI recognition is generally required for employment, and they will look at your qualifications to see if they are equivalent to ours. It is probably worthwhile doing this in advance of Coru, as it will open up your options later.

That is excellent advice much appreciated. I have never heard of CORU so thats great to know about.

I take it that CORU is like the HCPC in the UK or AHPRA in Australia.


Any idea of when CORU will regulate psychs?

So how does having PSI help with CORU?
