Damm and blast, having come home to order a €700 gaming PC I had put into my basket only to find out that the power supply I'd spec'd is now out of stock. This is what I was planning to order http://www.hardwareversand.de/en/400...bulk+-.article

Should I drop down to this and save €18 http://www.hardwareversand.de/en/400...TX+2.3.article, save €10 on this http://www.hardwareversand.de/en/400...29+ret.article or upgrade to this for an extra €3 http://www.hardwareversand.de/en/400...8+500W.article

    I'd go with: http://www.hardwareversand.de/en/500+-+600+Watts/151013/Corsair+VS+Serie+VS550%2C+Non-Modular%2C+80%2B.article :)

Thermaltake Berlin 630W from Harewareversand should do the job nicely.

Looking at specs of that gfx your previous power supply would struggle with that one, recommended is 750w supply, after running your build through www dot extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine and adding a few extra usb's and drives looks like a you would need at least 550w, so still leaves some room for adding a few bits to it for the future and save a few quid.

Thanks Dakkon, that http://www.hardwareversand.de/en/600+-+700+Watts/47363/Thermaltake+Berlin+630W.article looks like a great option. More capacity for less €'s. Win Win!!

Hmm, I always assumed that there was an issue with ThermalTake considering how low the prices are. After looking meticulously through the specifications of the power supply, the ThermalTake 630 is a better power supply than the VS550. The only thing I can see that the VS offers over the Berlin is that the cables are sleeved... The other benefits for the VS are all becoming obsolete now, such as the 3.3v rail and the 5v rail to some degree. That has made me think twice about suggesting someone uses a budget Corsair powersupply. The CX500 is actually in a worse state and that costs more! I must be missing something... Damn...

Then again, maybe it's just down to build quality.

Edit: Damn, even hardwaresecrets is saying it's a decent power supply...

Think that's a new powersupply for my builds... :P

It's a decent supply, but his build needs nowhere near 750w, a good 450w would be fine. Implying that the 500w would struggle or that 750w is necessary is madness. I have an i7 and R9 290 on a 500w supply and it's grand, considering the power hungry nature of the 290...

Oh no, I agree that it's not necessary. However, when a power-supply offers better price/performance isn't that what we're out to find? :)

Maybe would have been best to separate them and explain what the requirement is but what the best option in terms of price/performance is.

I personally find it very interesting that the ThermalTake offers a lower price and better performance and that even though it may be overkill, it's actually a better price/performance. :)

I was just pointing out that recommended by manufacturer is 700w which is over kill. Ran the build through the site I mentioned below and it recommends a 540w power supply, better to have a little extra to play with to allow for fancy keyboards, headsets and USB toys.

I was also surprised by the reviews of the Thermaltake Berlin 630W. only discovered it myself when looking for a viable option for your build.

Replace dot with . as can't post links
www dot extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine to check wattage needed.
