It's that time of year again, when you get to cast your vote for the FIFA Puskas Award. We have finished whittling the thousands of goals from around the world between 3 October 2013 and 26 September 2014 down to just ten.

    Tim Cahill – 18 June 2014, Australia v. Netherlands
Diego Costa – 23 November 2013, Atlético Madrid v. Getafe
Marco Fabian – 15 February 2014, Cruz Azul v. Puebla
Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 19 October 2013, Paris St. Germain v. SC Bastia
Pajtim Kasami – 21 October 2013, Crystal Palace v. Fulham
Stephanie Roche -20 October 2013, Peamount United v. Wexford Youths
    James Rodriguez – 28 June 2014 – Colombia v. Uruguay
    Camilo Sanvezzo – 6 October 2013 – Vancouver Whitecaps v. Portland
    Hisato Sato – 8 March 2014 – Sanfrecce Hiroshima v. Kawasaki Frontale
    Robin van Persie – 13 June 2014 – Spain v. Netherlands

Will this vote rival that of the "1999 Juventus most promising prospect" vote or has the internet grown up ?

Surely you're not suggesting that Ronnie O'Brien wasn't a worthy winner of that award, or the Time Person of the Century award?

To be fair, Stephanie Roche's goal is top quality and deserves to be in the running for the award, and I believe she has a genuine chance of winning it. This has nothing to do with the internet "growing up", she's on the shortlist on merit.

Oh yes totally agree that it should be short listed and is there on merit.

But will the ground swell of Irish internet votes win it for her, that what I'm wondering.

By the way Churchill was not a patch on Ronnie when it came to 20th century world history

Hopefully it does. You can be sure the Ronaldo fanboys will be out in force. Likewise all of Colombia will vote for James.

Roche is easily top 3 for me, just behind Kasami's who in my opinion required a little more skill because of the pace he met the ball at. Sato's looks like a nice goal too but a little fluky to be number one.

Van Persie's gets my vote, everything about it was perfect; the vision and delivery from Blind, the run and the execution were incredible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,233 ✭✭✭jacool

    Its tonight, very soon.
I hope Stephanie does it, though apparently James is clear in 1st place with about 1 hour left :(

Think James Rod will win it tonight.

If not Roche, Rodriguez should win. Van Persie's was brilliant, but not as good as the others.

I really want Steph to win but realistically, I think it will be Rodriguez.

Win or lose it'll be some experience for her to be there at the ceremony. Be great if she won

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,817 ✭✭✭✭Charlie19

Maybe Stephanie would win if she had sunglasses for ID.

RVP wont be there due to injury, so its James to win.

Its a pity though as I genuinely think Roches goal was the better.

Many of the German squad there tonight, does anyone know? Neuer and Low must be anyway

as an aside, David Luiz got in the FIFPro World XI for the year.

    lol.

David Luiz in the team of the year, award immediately loses credibility

Thiago Silva shouldn't be there either.

Luiz is actually a damn good cb.

Very disappointed Modric didn't make midfield. Deserved it way more than DI Maria.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,017 ✭✭✭✭klose

Luiz being there is just ridiculous, would have had godin and boateng but other than that it's a very fair line up.

    Utter liability IMO.

Godin, Miranda, boating all more deserving than Luiz. I'd bet if Miranda made Wc squad he'd be there.

Who needs to defend when you can score free kicks?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

When are they due to get to the Puskas award?

It's voted by fellow players isn't it? Luiz must be an incredibly likeable fella!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

I'd probably have Thomas Muller over Robben, but it would be very close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

    Utter liability IMO.

Capable of moments of madness and brilliance alike. Was praying Barca would sign him.

    Himself and pique entertainment galore!

I call shenanigans and say that Brazil hosting the World Cup got them a few players in the Team of the Year.

They said there was an hour more to vote at about half five, so half six or so?

And that makes him a liability :pac:

Shocking lack of discipline, sure he's entertaining but that's not what I want from a defender.

To paraphrase Apres Match Liam Brady, he's a floppy haired clown Billllllllllll

I wish Ronaldo would just give an answer. He was fairly emotional in Moscow in '08.

I think it shows something into his personality that he's never looking back. His most important goal is 'his next one'. Always seeking to improve, it's something else.

Joachim Low get's coach of the year. I think Ancelotti should have gotten it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,987 ✭✭✭mikeym

    Eurosport are also showing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,656 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

I think Simeone should'veg won this one, but a WC winner is hard to argue against.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Low is nowhere near a prominent reason why Germany won the World Cup.

Simeone should have won that all day long.

The Champions League is infinitely harder to win than the World Cup.

    Simeone robbed of that award.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,973 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Thought Low was never going to shut up.
