    Hi Folks,

Anyone know what Oil I should use for a new Mazda 3. Its a 141 model. And, do I need a garage to reset the message on the screen? Does the Oil drain out via sump? I hope so....

    Cheers

I don't believe so, a mate of mine has a new 6 SkyActiv and he said it can be done via the electronic information display thing. It's covered in the manual, somewhere obscure.

Had a go today at changing the oil but abandoned it. Manufacturer's don't half make it difficult. I see 2 panels underneath. Front and back. The front has a smaller panel for draining whats looks to be like the cooling fluid. The second small panel ( within the back panel) I removed and there was
the Oil filter...Fine. Now I gather at this stage I will need to take this whole panel off to get at the sump nut. Does anyone know?

    Thanks for the help

I really would not recommend doing a DIY service on a 141 reg car. The money you save by doing it yourself will be offset by the issues it will raise come trade in time.

The first service is basically an oil and filter change, call a few dealers for a price and get one of them to do it. Get your invoice and your stamp in the book. It will be worth it in the long run.

I would encourage everyone to DIY if they can but not on a new car. The missing stamp and lack of service history will wipe out any savings you'll make DIYing when you come to sell it on.

unless you plan to DIY it for next 10 years

What person would buy a new car and then service it themselves FFS. Did it come with no warranty?

Your going to void the warranty and devalue the car by potentially 1000s as it will have no dealer service history so that you can save 50-100 quid maximum that makes no sense to me anyway. I'm all for doing DIY servicing on your car but not one that is new with manufacturer warranty on it.

Ok, I hear ye....I'll bring it to a dealer and let them sort it. Trouble is I bought the car when I was employed 8 months ago. I'm now unemployed for 4 months and going....thankfully I had the money to buy it outright but I'm sorry now. I could do with a few K. I bought the oil and filter for 80euro, expensive enough. Will have to price a few garages. Wonder does it or should it be a main dealer at first?

    Thanks folks

Just in case take it to a main dealer. I don't know if it is the case on the new 3 but on my old 6 there wasn't a service book and all service data was stored on the key meaning any dealer could print out the history of the car. If you needed work it's better having it all.

My first service at the main dealer for a similarly engined car was €99. For the sake of €19........
