FG First Wheel set build & Old hub lacing question

    Hey,

I recently bought a secondhand Fuji Track fixed gear (love it btw) but the wheel set was not machined and it didn't have any brakes.

I installed a front brake & decided to replace the rims with ones that were machined. (went with Halo Aerotracks, DT Competition spokes and am reusing the BLB Track Hubs)

    32H with 3x pattern

When I started lacing the old BLB Track Hubs to the new rims I noticed something that I wasn't sure about. The trailing spokes on one side are laced on the outside of the hub Flange, whilst the trailing spokes on the other flange are laced on the inside.

My question is; due to the (albeit minor) marks / indents on the hub should I proceed with lacing the new rims in this same method? Seems to me that when generating torque from pedaling, the wheel will pull to one side instead of equal lateral pulling from both sides. With proper spoke tension would this be negligible?

I am more comfortable replicating the old lacing pattern than placing more pressure on the flanges with a different pattern.

    Thoughts?

    Cheers

That's how my newly built dynowheel is laced. Admittedly, I laced it myself following Roger Musson's Wheel building book and that's how the lacing turned out. It leaves the front wheel symmetrical regardless of which way you put it in the fork.

My understanding for the rear wheel is that it's mostly only the drive side trailing spokes that transmit torque. In the case of a track hub, is it a flip-flop hub in which case, the above lacing would seem appropriate.

Of course (unusual though it may seem to the casual viewer), I could be wrong...

So I went with the original lacing pattern so I wouldn't damage the hub. Looking into it further and from what people have said the lacing pattern is fine and is now riding great!

    Thanks for the replies

Must say I really enjoyed building the wheel and would recommend anyone to give it a go. I used a bike stand and that was perfect for trueing the wheel against the brake.

Here's a pic of the finished job
