Just reading up on fedex. on the website they say they have 3696 vehicle fleet. but air operations only include 50 aircraft. planespotters says they have a fleet of 668. So who's right? like is the fleet just included into the vehicle fleet section?

Edit. its 656 aircraft. had to Change websites. was on the european site. but might as well change the question, is that 50 aircraft deadicated to just europe?

I don't know what website you might have been reading but vehicles should be in reference to ground vehicles that deliver and pick up freight and packages.

At the moment FedEx Express have approx 657 aircraft on their books not including orders. Not all of these aircraft would be 'live' and indeed a small percentage while owned by FedEx are leased to other operators to use them on their behalf such as the entire ATR fleet both European and U.S. as well as some 757s based in Canada not to mention the small Cessna's.

The fixed European fleet consists of 3 Airbus A300s and approximately 15 757s with a based MD11 as a spare. Otherwise the MD11s and the 777s that fly the intra continental freight through the likes of STN, CGN, MXP and the big CDG hub are all based in the US. All pilots are exclusivley American with bases in CGN (for Euro 757 flying) HKG (for Airbus Asia flying which will be soon become a 757/767 base) LAX (MD11 base) ANC (MD11 base) and home base is MEM where the super hub is located. Otherwise there will be an IND base opening shortly with 767s..

If you've any doubts about the size of their fleet, have a look at MEM airport on Google Earth and zoom across to their hub and look at how many A/C are there on the ground, and that's just the ones on the ground there.
Consider then how many more they have in other bases or in the air at any one time....
