So last week we were coming out towards the n4 and traffic was pulled over by motorbike outriders followed by army jeeps and two Garda minibuses followed by more motorbikes. Today I was on the bus coming into town passing Liffey valley and spotted the same combination going outbound on the N4.

Anyone know what it's for? Seems odd to have both army and police but then minibuses rather than limos for dignitaries?

Not sure but ive seen it also on the M50, mid afternoon between the N4 and N7 heading south back in October. There were 2 40ft lorries at the heart of it.

Think that's the Euro bank notes that Ireland print for one of the other EU nations.

Seen this on my way southbound on the m50 last week to. Big convoy of army trucks, guards brought me to a stop trying to merge on from the slip road....

Probably the army moving some weaponry (between the Glen of Imaal and the Curragh or Athlone) or it may be drugs on their way to being incinerated.

Two things you really don't want to fall into the wrong hands

Portlaoise prisoners going to Central criminal court and back ?

Also agree with euro notes convoy , two helicopters overhead aswell.

There would be no Garda involvement in that...

There usually is because the Army can't stop or redirect traffic and you don't want the convoy split up.

I remember a few years ago they blocked the old N9 when a truck carrying an artillery piece broke down. Road was shut and no traffic was allowed past while it was immobile.
