I recon the astra would be the more reliable car assuming its a 1.6hdi 407. I don't think theres any issues with that 1.7 Diesel engine really. Whereas the 1.6 you could make a list the length of your arm now not saying everything will go wrong. But if you were going on probability the astra is less likely to go wrong.

Thanks, it is the 1.6, have already read a few bad reviews ...

Dpf's are particularly troublesome on the 407.

As for the 1.6 common issues include; egr, injectors, turbos, oil sludge more from lack of servicing.

You could be lucky with one and have no issues but I personally wouldn't take a chance on one. I've already been stung by that 1.6 engine and I wouldn't buy another one. I had an astra same model in 08 only 1.3 cdti and I liked it and it was trouble free. But the 1.7 Is a lot nicer with the bit of extra power.

    Hi jezko,
Just wondering if you got the 09 astra estate? Might get same model/year as this but just wondering if you have had any issues with it? Thanks
