    http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/30205410

"Hundreds of thousands of Swiss people eat cat and dog meat say activists, who want the practice to be made illegal.A petition with 16,000 signatures has been handed to the Swiss parliament, calling for the government to stop people eating "domestic animals
    [...]
Animal welfare is a "high priority in Switzerland" they said, with instances of cruelty dealt with in court.
    [...]
"We are asking simply for a paragraph in the law on protecting domestic animals," said Tomek.".

    I can imagine the conversation:
    - But..but... cats and dogs are cute, we like them. It's so cruel to eat them, we need to stop animal cruelty!
    - What about cows then?
    - Fukk'em. They're tasty, and they're not pretty.

Eejits, hypocrites, and narrow-minded bigots. How do they THINK cattle live and die?

Around three percent of the Swiss secretly eat cat or dog,

Didn't know Tesco was in Switzerland.

I get the same reaction from somewhat ignorant people when I mention I eat rabbit or dear.

I actually think cows are funny looking. Pigs and sheep can be cute. Especially lamb.mmm lamb is tasty.

But when your dog or cat is pretty much your best friend, a good mate, a part of the family, you can understand how people feel differently about it.

I can't help but feel, with a username like Oink, that the OP has a vested interest in this :pac:

I'm not a psychopath, I wouldnt normally eat my pet unless it looks reaaally tasty. It doesnt mean nobody should be allowed to eat that type of animal.

Reminds me of the old Denis Leary sketches

    "Don't eat that Tuna sandwich!!!"

    "why not?"

"cause dolphins get caught in the nets"

    "what about the Tuna?"

    "F&*k them, they taste good!"

We only want to save the nice cuddly animals and we should have an audience to decide!

    "what are you?"

    "I'm an otter"

    "and what do you do?"

"I swim around on my back and make cute little gestures with my hands like this"

    "you're free to go"

    "NEXT....what are you?"

    "I'm a cow"

    "get in the f^&*ing truck"

"hey, I have feelings too ya know"

"meh, you're a steak and a leather jacket!!"

Very true in many cases, chicks, piglets and calves are just adorable.

16 posts in and no one said, "They do WHAT!!! in Switzerland?!?!"

The Swiss must keep their heads down or fidget and whistle to themselves when the subject of Dog and Cat on the menu in China and Korea comes up in conversation.

First I ever heard of a Western Nation with a predilection for cat and dog on the dinner plate!!

Do vegetarians and animal rights activists give a **** about all the natural habitats being destroyed to create their vegetable fields and palm oil shampoo and conditioner. I love animals but there's too much stuff to boycott and care about. Where do you draw the line?

Now, nobody likes a good laugh more than I do...except perhaps my wife and some of her friends...oh yes and Captain Johnston. Come to think of it most people likes a good laugh more than I do. But that's beside the point. Now, let's have a good clean healthy outdoor thread. Get some air into your lungs. Ten, nine, eight and all that.

If he was called Eric you'd only have a demi-bee, bisected accidently, Cyril Connolly, half a bee!

As a dog lover, I can say I have no issue with other people eating dog, provided the dogs were raised and killed in a humane manner. Some people see cows, pigs, deer, chickens, hell, many animals that we eat as their pets, but we have no problem eating them. Just because dogs are more commonplace pets doesn't mean they should have priority over other animals. Provided they're raised and killed in a humane manner, I'm pretty sure the dog doesn't care it's going to be eaten, same with cats.
