Nice car but I was told to avoid the autos as they can throw up some pretty nice bills!

SAAB auto boxes are made by Aisin - the same lads who make toyotas automatic gearboxes. They are reliable.

God I know they can, the auto box just went on the current car so just looking for a replacement, has to be an auto unfortunately.

These 9-3's are good cars. If you look on the bangernomics thread they are seen as a bargain as the public have a perception parts are hard to come by. This is not true. There is still a network of saab parts suppliers around the country.

I will say that this one is not of a very high spec. I think the vector sport is what you should look for and a good example could be had for about 2000 with a long test and similar milage.

    That is a Vector sport.

Vector sport will have a little screen high up on the dash like this

That's just an option isn't it? The standard Vector spec includes the standard HU. We have 2 Saab 9-3 Vectors, one of which has the upgraded HU and one of which has the standard system. To be honest, the standard system is better as it allows easier upgrade of the factory speaker setup.

I'd be more inclined to find the car in the best condition rather than aim for certain options at this age.
