Eircom says I need a static IP because their dynamic IPs are blacklisted

For the last couple of days the email I send via my Blacknight hosted domain has been bouncing. After passing the blame off on Blacknight as strongly as they could Eircom (my ISP) finally admitted it was because the dynamic IPs I was getting (several different ones after restarting the router) were all blacklisted. They went on to say that the only way I could be assured of getting my email through was to buy a static IP.

Now, I've been with Eircom and Blacknight for years and never had this problem until a few days ago. And then it happens me repeatedly for several different IP addresses so.... forgive me if I'm scratching my head.

What do people think? Has anyone else been forced to buy a static IP for the same reason?

If they are giving you blacklisted IPs I'd say they need to fix it instead of charging you for a static one.

Check your IP to see if its being blocked by Spamhaus, request removal if it is.

Do you mean the Blacknight smtp server was refusing to accept all your email for delivery?
Try using eircom's smtp server (mail1.eircom.net).

Some ISPs block external smtp access (ie outbound on port 25 ,see point 3 on http://www.uceprotect.net/en/index.php?m=4&s=0) , but afaik eircom doesn't restrict access by port.

I'd be contacting Blacknight tbh. They're the ones who are will not accept your email

I did contact Blacknight but they use a third party blacklisting service which they won't be changing.

@advertsfox my IP is listed in the PBL and XBL. But I'm on a dynamic IP so what good is it requesting removal?

BTW, the CBL lookup utility says my IP address -

"... is listed in the CBL. It appears to be infected with a spam sending trojan, proxy or some other form of botnet.
It was last detected at 2014-11-26 23:00 GMT (+/- 30 minutes), approximately 15 hours ago.
This IP is infected (or NATting for a computer that is infected) with the Conficker C botnet."

Blacklists ONLY matter if you're hosting your own local mailserver. This stops spammers. If you have a dynamic IP you cannot host your own mailserver, you must direct mail to your ISPs mail server (mail1.eircom.net).

ED_E but why can't I send my email through the Blacknight server as I've been doing happily for a year?

I don't understand why eircom didn't mention using their mail server as a resolution to this.

If it was configured to send to Blacknights mail server then spamhaus etc should be checking BLACKNIGHTS IP, not yours. UPC had problems with their mailservers getting blocked intermittently 4 or 5 months ago. This could be similar.

Open a ticket with blacknight, they need to sort this.

Conficker C looks a bit strange. Wasn't Conficker from 2008/2009?
