A quest for optimal silence: Air or Water?

So I've been thinking (this almost always ends up with my bank account suffering):

After watching this video from TastyPC about a semi-passive build:

I've started to wonder if my rig would actually be quieter going this route.

At the moment, I have a 3570K and 780 under water. They're being cooled by a D5, and two 80mm thick 240 rads, with a mix of Gentle Typhoon and Noctua fans, all in a Deep Silence One case (very similar to Fractal's Define series).

The advantage being that, it being such a silence-focused case, very little noise escapes. This has a direct impact on airflow as well though.

What do you think? There wouldn't be any noise at all with an open air build - SSDs, and 0dB GPU and CPU fans, as well as a semi-passive PSU (assuming no coil whine) and I wouldn't have to hear the pump either. I'd expect it to be a little louder when gaming, but am I really going to care too much with all the other noise going on at that point?

    Opinions!

Jesus man, the voice on that woman drives me spare. All that I can focus on is the clicking noise during every sentence...

    Anyway, back to topic.

    My suggestion:

If you're thinking about going for a semi-passive build, I would definitely recommend it if noise bothers you. However, I would only suggest that if you're getting a new build. I completely understand the want to always seek the best possible thing for your needs but does that really mean that you need to spend more money just for that extra silence? :)

Obviously it's entirely down to your wants and needs but I would just recommend sticking with your existing setup and then going for the semi-passive build if you're making a major revamp of your computer or a completely new build. That's my suggestion anyway. :)

I'm sure the comments under her video are lovely

Anyway if your going for complete silence do as the lovely gill said above if it's a case of you just don't want fans blaring just build as you want and tweak the fans as above in software invest in good cpu heatsync and an nvidia card as I find they run cooler
