Rate Adaptive or Stable profile / eVision question

Hi guys, had Eircom offering 12 months free eVision to me and trying to understand how it will affect my BB speeds. If anyone can advise?

    I'm about 600mts from the cabinet with 70mbps down / 20mbps up.

I would guess that I'm on the rate adaptive profile but is there anyway to tell from the F1000?

And, with vectoring turned on, does the eVision system still result in the rate adaptive profile being switched to stable?

So, the basic question is: Can I expect a drop of ~20mbps if get eVision is enabled as per older posts or has vectoring changed anything?

yes fixed rates are roughly 15mb lower than rate adaptive

evision only works on fixed rate as rate adaptive profiles do not carry multicast tv streams from evision

it is not possible to get evision working on rate adaptive profiles. multicast can only be set on fixed rate profiles. once you order evision your profile will be switched to fixed rate.

its down to a few reasons

    1. multicast is only set to fixed rates
    2. the product codes for efibre and evision differ at package level. a wrong product code results in a black screen on tv
    3. fixed rate is necessary to provide sustained video feed. otherwise the picture quality suffers.

the max FTTC speeds available on rate adaptive is (based on distance from cab) is 100mb/sdown 20mb/s up at present (this fluctuates however based on demand from the modem)
the max FTTC speeds available on fixed rate is 85mb/s down 20mb/s up but is set at a fixed setting of at least 26mb/s to maintain picture quality when evision with 3x stbs are in use at the same time, the rest of the bandwidth gets allocated to your computers/phones/tablets etc.

at present FTTH is limited to a max of 150mb/s down 30mb/s up but there is huge room for increase for anyone able to get FTTH. the big hurdle here is lack of ducting sufficient to provide to more customers... putting in new ducting is a massive undertaking as it will require alot of digging particularly in areas where the houses have been there 20+ years

most urban areas will have reasonable ducting in place hence why they get the higher speed services first however rural area will not have the benefit of this ducting which is why they get put on the long finger alot. it is simply a case of cost vs return.

urban areas offer quicker return on investment
