Renting near Blanchardstown

    Hi

Starting a job in Blanchardstown soon so I'm looking for a house share which is a short commute away but has all the amenities on the Northside.

I've never lived in the Northside of the city and have only been to Blanchardstown twice on a drive by. I'm house sharing in Kimmage at the moment which I love but it kinda lacks the amenities (as in sorta Rathmines kinda feel). Also, the toll charge of 6 euros everyday is quite a daunting idea!

I don't mind driving into work so I'm thinking of maybe Castleknock or Cabra but don't really know anything about those places. Also, not sure if these places have a swimming pool, Lidl or takeaways.

Things I'm looking for are a convenient enough area with a bit of takeaways, Lidl or Tesco, Swimming pool or Gym and a sort of family oriented kind of area similar to Kimmage.

    Thanks for your recommendations!

The National Aquatic Centre is in Blanchardstown while Cabra has a new swimming pool and gym in the Deaf village which is open to the public for a membership fee.

Tyrrelstown is near Blanchardstown and there is a Lidl there, and there is an Aldi in Mudhudart. The blanchardstown shopping centre and blanchardstown village would cover most requirements. Cabra is good if you plan on going into town often, and you could either do the M50 or the back roads past Cappagh Hospital. Other option is Glasnevin?

    Wow thank you! :)

So, nobody recommends Castleknock or near Phoenix Park or North Circular Road then?

Theres huge variation in price in the areas you are asking about. Castleknock can b. expensive, and some of Nth Circular is very run down. Have you checked out the rental prices on daft etc.

Yeah I have - I'm thinking more of house share and house share prices seem to be pretty standard in all those areas. Haven't seen many properties on offer in Cabra but there seem to be a few in the Castleknock area - just not sure if Castlenock is nice and all but lacks amenities like shops and gym.

Castleknock is small (expensive) area, just a small village with small shops Spar etc and gym like Curves. A lot of places claiming to be Castleknock aren't really. Even the Castleknock train station isn't near Castleknock. Everything in Blanch is 5 mins away by car. The only issue all over D.15 is traffic. At peak time its car park especially around the centre, or getting off/on the N3 to places like the NAC. Cabra is a much bigger area, less expensive, with good and some bad area's.

Theres a lot of traffic bottle necks in the area, if i were me I try the route to work a few time and see how busy it is. Also if you socialise in city centre pick somewhere with a good bus route or near the train line. No point living in a nice gaff if its a pain for getting home at the weekend.

you don't have to go through the toll bridge - you could always drive through town and out the Navan road to get to Blanch

Thats true. Its against the traffic, probably only 30 mins kimmage to Blanch. if you're happy there why move.

    Hmm thanks

I'm a bit of a nervous driver and haven't driven to Blanchardstown from Kimmage.

I'll do some driving around this weekend and see how long it takes through the Navan road.

I think I'd like somewhere peaceful that's why I was looking at Castleknock but I might be just deluding myself here.

I wouldn't mind living in Cabra or even in Blanch - If I were to live in Blanch, I will walk to work and that will work fine for me too.

    Thanks all again. :)

have a look on AA roadwatch, routeplanner and it will give you the best routes to go, just tick 'avoid toll' and it wil give you exact directions, as you said you can then do a test drive over the weekend and see how you feel

In cabra the houses tend to be smaller and the pubs are not great. There are lots of amenities and it is near town. Not bad safety wise but would be considered by many to be the least safe of the areas you are considering.
Navan road is a very settled area with lots around and reasonable amenities although for a swimming pool you would need to go to cabra or blanch. You have the phoenix park on your doorstep. not great for takeaways unless you are near rathbourne.
laurel Lodge, Carpenterstown and Roselawn/ Delwood/ Brompton areas are all pretty good areas and should have good availability of properties. All are near the train aswell. There is a tesco in Roselawn and lots of takeaways around.
Tyrrelstown has everything and may be a bit cheaper but is a bit isolated if you like going out in town.

Hard to advise unless there was some indication of where work is in Blanch. Many people work in big industrial estates and would be a bit souless around them at the weekends. Blanch is a big area now.

It is in the Rosemount business park area.

I was looking at Carpenterstown on Daft but it seems to be a good walk away

Google maps suggest 1hr 20mins walk, 20 mins cycle. You'd be caught in some traffic if driving. If no traffic its about 10 mins.

Haha very precise! That is a very long walk though - will prolly have to take the bus then.

Does anybody know if the traffic on Navan Road is bad in the mornings?

    Yes, both ways

How about Waterville? Walking distance to your work but also to the centre and it's shops, cinema, theatre, restaurants and a Witherspoons opening

Rosemount Bus Pk is a 7 min drive from tyrrelstown and from Cappagh in finglas & also Ashtown.. Cabra wouldn't be too far off either... no traffic really from those locations (maybe except cabra & railroad crossing).. when you cross the navan road, u hit traffic... like castleknock etc..
