    Hi,

Our heat exchange is rusted through causing a leak. We have just had isolation valves fitted by a plumber as there were none installed going into the boiler.

Can a plumber fit the heat exchange unit? Or do I have to go through Bord Gais or an RGI? It is not related to the gas line hence my question.

    Many thanks

Only a Registered Gas Installer is legally allowed and insured to carry out repairs to any Gas appliance.
If you post up the area you are in, there are some very good RGI guys here who should be able to help you out.

Drive to suppliers, wait and get part, drive to your house, partially dismantle gas boiler, fit new part, re-fill boiler, check for leaks, re-assemble gas boiler, start boiler and vent air, ensure boiler is operating correctly and safely, tidy up, put equipment back in van, fill out cert and invoice.
    All in 10 minutes ;)

I'm going by what the plumber just said. He just left half an hour ago.

So you're saying the fully qualified plumber who has just undergone his RGI training, runs a very successful business and is very well thought of is just making that up to annoy a few people on boards.ie?

I understand you all have a living to make but I am just going on what he said. No more no less.

I change them on a regular basis , no way is he doing it in ten minutes . Without collecting part etc the actual job should take around an hour , all going well . Drain down , strip down , fit part , refill, put boiler back together and test . And for that price I'd be asking him to service it while he's at it.

My main concern is the safety but it is so expensive. Sorry most of you probably disagree with that but that is based on what I earn etc

Again, thanks for your time and help
