Cheltenham Ante Post Fun

I know it's early but with the likes of Vatour, Faugheen and The New One running this weekend i am getting excited.

Planning on doing small ante post doubles and trebles for pittance that pay huge money. Below is the first i am looking at feel free if anybody wants to suggest mad bets.

If all your horses line up on the day would be an achievement but it's small money hoping for an unlikely big payout.

Doing a small €2.50 treble today before Vatour and Allez Colombieres run the weekend.

    RSA Ballycasey 14/1
    Supreme Novices Allez Colombieres 10/1
    Arkle Vatour 5/1

    €2.50 treble pays €2475.

Ballycasey not a novice. Cant run in RSA.

I like a ricci treble day 1. Above 2 plus faugheen.

    Correct meant to say Ryanair.

Faugheen too short needs to improve jumping.

I've had one antepost bet for the festival.

Neptune: Tell Us More @ 20/1

Patrick Mullins was on Final Furlong podcast a few weeks back and the way he spoke about him just struck as a different type of bullish and I've taken a chance that he'll be the next next superstar Mullins novice.

I think Vautour will end up in the JLT

Had this same conversation today but surely it be the Arkle he looks a lot quicker than what Champaign Fever did

What is the likelihood of Mullins running both Vautour and Un De Sceaux in it though? Surely slim

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭jimjamcos

Whatever horse he runs in it this year is going to be quicker than CF. Ruby will have a massive say as always. Whoever he sees as quicker will most likely be it, if UDS jumps as well as Vautour.

I'd be astounded if UDS ran at Cheltenham and it wasn't the Arkle

As low as 7/1 now having done very little. Bit ridiculous but can't be a bad thing so happy enough. Hopefully we'll see him hack up before new year. Mullins has 9 novices entered for Ascot race on Friday.

    Just done a trixie.

    Peace and Co Triumph 9/2
    The Young Master RSA 16/1
    Faugheen Champion Hurdle 2/1

Stuck a small bet on Mullins' Au Quart De Tour for the Champion Bumper.

Im told they think he's their best bumper horse this year. Due to run at the weekend and if he wins well he'll half in price.
Currently 16/1 best price, PP go only 12s ;)

Paddy's are shocking across the board for prices this year.

Hurricane Fly won't have a hope of running in the World Hurdle. Even if he runs in the CH he be lucky to be placed

We will see, Ruby could be pushing for it and then have Annie Power to ride in mares. its Nrnb either way.

Just a had look at the first day, its not that unlikely that all favs win at 5,000/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

The 3 shorties look nailed don't they.
Wouldn't touch any of them as a single but certainly worth a Treble that pays 10s.

Chances are one will lose but worth a few quid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 322 ✭✭Dunston

What price do you think Peace and Co will be on the day? Sickened I missed the bigger prices but wanted to see him perform at cheltenham first before weighing in. 9/4 best on offer now

    3/1 on day easily.

ya couldn't be any shorter than 9/4 on the day anyway, i'll keep the powder dry!

Yeah, I don't bother this time of year unless I see something like Un De Sceaux 2/1. The bookies will be tripping over themselves to get people betting with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,115 ✭✭✭Backstreet Moyes

My big hope for Un De Sceaux is Vautour goes to the Arkle so i can get a better price on him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,115 ✭✭✭Backstreet Moyes

Some small fun accum's done awhile ago that i at least have got value once they turn up.

    €5 double
    Peace and Co 3/1
    Douvan 5/1

    €1.25 trixie
    Peace and Co 9/2
    The young Master 16/1
    Faugheen 2/1

    €2 acc
    Peace and Co 9/2
    Vautour 9/4
    Un De Sceaux 3/1
    Douvan 6/1

Having looked at the Supreme field i seriosly reckon backing Douvan to win and Lami Serge e/w is the way to make serious cash. Probably, on current form and ratings the worst Supreme ever.

Im hoping some bookie goes money back if second to Douvan then it would be ideal to lump on both.

Im all for taking on favourites but genuinely cant see anything in the race to take them on with. Its a terrible race.

Maybe a big price each way shot could run well but on form there's zero there!

Ground the only concern for me. Think him and the second fav could both be very good. they will be together at the last and be clear of the rest by a distance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Cheltenham a week earlier this year, ground could be that bit softer. See on the day, both could want soft!!

Give over. He's still got plenty to prove and will be bigger than current price on day, regardless of ground

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Wont be much bigger than 2/1 on the day i reckon. 9/4 maybe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭jimjamcos

9/4 probably about right but think some book will go 5/2 (probably for about 5mins) in the morning. Way I look at it is bookies will be happy to lay Douvan in the knowledge plenty will reinvest any winnings in other Mullins shorties through week. They'll have plenty of chances to get it back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

First fav they might not be so brave !! There's nothing i nthe race, its not like there's a load of 5-10 shots in there, its an awful race!

Fair enough I was exaggerating for effect. I still think its a straight shoot out between the top 2. He will deffinatly be bigger on the day I think he will touch 5/2 at some point. I have nothing on him and may just back the 2nd fav each way but with the right bookie offer for the race I may be tempted to plough into both.

FWIW Slattsy there is only a day in the diff, festival began on 11th last year, just in case you were going to have a bet on this premise!

    Cheers. Didn't even check!
Weather seems fairly unsettled so ground might well be on the soft side.
