Sonicare Battery Replacement

My 3/4yo Sonicare doesn't take or hold a charge. I've removed the old battery and found plenty of replacements on eBay. The only difference being that they are NiMH and the removed battery is Li-ion.

I know little of batteries. Would this make any difference? Not worried about long term performance as such, just successfully and safely charging it using the current charger really. I don't want to be picking lumps of metal out of my face for a year.

    Ta.
