    Hi all,

Just wondering if I have to use a 45dg elbow to connect the a freestanding stove on the hearth to the flue (stainless insert type flue)? Or just attach the flue to the back of the stove?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean as both options sound the same.

If the stove is sitting on the hearth in front of the fire opening then you should be using an elbow consisting of 2no 45deg bends a straight piece and a reducer.
Others might do it differently which is fine but for a standard flue this is what you should be doing.

I'm using a 5 inch twin walled stainless flue, as the house is 40 years old. Though the existing flue is in very good condition.

After a few days research looks like i should use a 90deg T connector with a soot collector, and connect that directly to the stainless flue!
