New home insurance but previous occupants staying for one month

We have just bought a house and hope to have everything sorted by mid-December to get it signed over to us. We knew when buying it that the sellers wanted to stay until January so we agreed as long as they helped us get everything sorted before the end of December to avoid us paying the stamp duty. It just dawned on us last night that we have no idea how we will get the house insurance sorted. We presume we need it for the signing of the contract in December but technically we will be landlords for the first month as we will be renting the house to the sellers. What is the best way of sorting this?

The house needs to be owner occupied when the insurance is taken out. That said a lot of insurers will consider a person living in the house without paying rent with the owners consent "owner occupied". You just need to check the definition in the wording of whichever insurer gives you the most favourable quote.
