I think that's only done on a store by store basis. I got one from the Blanch branch recently, but it's expired now.

Ring them! Ask for the manager, and say, "So what's this about the Platinum cards for certain customers" ... Supervalu are great for customer service, you might get lucky!

Our platinum card was 15% off ALL purchases, no minimum purchase, for a couple of months. Unfortunately as we don't have a car, and location wasn't ideal, we didn't get great use out of it. In general, I find Supervalu own-brand stuff to be good value and quality - so if we had a car, I'd have definitely stocked up!

Not quite as good but nearly, Tesco in the UK are doing 24 packs of 330ml cans for £6 (works out to 25p(31c) a can v 28c in Ireland) until next Tuesday.

But that's not an Irish deal, how can it be nearly as good, petrol, currency conversion etc?

Or is this cold clogging my brain as well as my head??

Just for any boardsies in the UK. Not suggesting you should drive up north of the border for the deal.

If you dont have a loyalty card the cans scan at €8 per pack.
I just got some there didnt have any but the girl at the till gave me a blank one scaned it and told me to fill it out and bring it back.

If you dont have one just ask at customer service desk for one before you get any shopping and that should work.

Also quota of 2 per customer

You don't need a loyalty card at the self-check out counter. Scanned at 5 euro each.

Some stores have a quota of one per person - Celbridge store only allowing one per person.

    Icky multipack cans.

Need the ones without the multipack labelling. Crates of the ones you buy indiviudally would be something else.

Basically, multipack cans never taste as good as the individual ones with no multipack labelling.

I have drank alot of coke in my life so its not in my head!

Someone suggested they might but less of the paste or whatever you call it into the multipack ones.

Prove it with a double blind experiment and come back to us. It's all in your head. They don't do anything different for the multipack cans besides the 'multipack' text on the can.

Really ?? I'll have to really have a good taste when i open one of these cans and see if I notice any difference.

A tale from my local SV, 50 slabs in stock for the offer, staff put 26 aside for themselves & the rest were snapped up as soon as the place opened.

    Nah.

I got a couple of crates from a cash and carry a few Xmases ago.

They were 24 can crates that Newsagents get to sell indiviudally (no multipack markings). There is no oubt there is a different taste.

    Someone suggested less syrup.

If you don't drink enough to notice then have at it! But I even think the mutlipack cans don't taste as nice as 2-Litre bottles.

Unless you do a double blind experiment then it is all most likely in your head. I'd say they are all canned at the same facility, thus, using the exact same product.

Thought the same myself. The quality of multipack cans isn't the same as the cans sold individually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,223 ✭✭✭Michael D Not Higgins

Pure conspiracy theory stuff. Why would they push an inferior product? It could only harm their brand. The multipacks are cheaper because they get you to buy more of it.

Same happened me in Pavillions Swords. When I enquired I was told that they were sold out at 9am.!! 😠
Is it an offer for the day or just an offer for the staff.? At least in other stores when the offer is on it lasts for the day.

Ah ffs, that's a joke! Was planning on popping into Super Valu & picking up 2 slabs later but I won't get in till after 5 so I suppose that means there's zero chance of any left? You'd think when they run a good offer that they know will appeal to people, they'd order in enough to satisfy....

Because it has been proven time and time again that people can easily be influenced by psychological factors. It is the whole reason advertising works so well.

The only scientific way to know for sure is by doing a double blind test.

Have you ever done a blind taste test? We all know our own taste buds but put a blindfold on, take away what they look like suddenly Jacobs jaffa cakes and Tesco jaffa cakes taste exceedingly similar. You should try it yourself at home with a few people. Not scientific but gauranteed to produce interesting results.

If it was a passing comment I might agree but I have had enough samples of individual can, multi can, 2-litre bottle, 500ml bottle etc to know.

I can be 100% sure the multis are different through experience - I appreciate that people who drink it less wouldn't know though.

As an experiment though, I urge anyone who feels like it to grab a single can when they pick up these multipacks - refridgerate both for an appropriate amount of time and see if you can taste a difference.

Interesting it was brought up here before (and in other places).

As I say, I was lucky enough to get a crate or two from a Wholesaler a few years ago and every can was brilliant. Just like the ones buy individually.

Probably more like these cheap offers are usually closer to their sell by date. I've noticed differences in the taste of coke closer to its still by date.

But in general I can't see why Coke would make any difference between a multi packs taste. It's not like there'd be any difference in cost to make (it's sugary water after all) and distribute and they'd only get brand damage.

Multipack cans are cheaper per unit than standalone cans.

Reducing the syrup levels could be a way to make up these costs. I don't rule out other factors such as sell-by date, perhaps multis are sitting in heat longer etc etc. I just know the ones with the yellow or white multipack labels never taste as nice.

Was planning on popping into Supervalue on the Tramore rd in Waterford after work this evening. Has anyone been in there this afternoon to know if there are any left? Would save me a potentially wasted journey. Thanks in advance:)

I'm not saying you are wrong, but scientifically speaking, unless you do a double blind test, you can't be 100% sure.

A famous experiment was once done, three of the top sommeliers (wine experts) were given a wine and asked to describe it and name it.

They all described it and picked a red wine. It was in fact a white wine with red dye added!

In other words some of the worlds most famous sommeliers thought a white wine was a red simply because they were fooled by their eyes.

You are kidding yourself if you think you know coke, better then a sommelier knows wine.

A double blind test can be tricky, but you should at least be able to try a single blind test with a friend, blind fold and a few cans of coke.

And hey with the right "friend", the blind fold can even be used for even more interesting and fun activities :p

This. Remember, they are regularly selling 2 litres of coke for €1.50 - on a regular basis you can find this (or 2 bottles for €3). That's 25c a litre. Same thing. Just because they are putting it in cans does not make it more expensive for them. The can itself is the most expensive part!

Yes. It is. But that is nothing to do with the point I was making.

    As I said below:
Just because they are putting it in cans does not make it more expensive for them. The can itself is the most expensive part!

The coke going flat is an argument for buying cans rather than bottles. This discussion is about the cost of making the coke and whether it would save Coca Cola any money by making some "inferior" coke for multipacks.

    It wouldn't.
