Does everyone have to use this facility? register for online access/receive text messaging.

Reason i ask, I have (im sure) one of the thousands of old school farmers beside me who seem to want everything in the post. (the type that pays ESB in post office to avoid a DD. and pays most things with a chq.)

a letter was recived from the dept asking to register details, mobile etc. email address.

but with the above aside, Does he actually have to register?

if he does register, does that mean most items recevied in post, is now done on-line? and basically no paper record for the piece of wire in the cupboard

    Regards,

I got that letter too. It is deliberately misleading imo. They are asking for farmers mobile phone numbers and e mail addresses but it seems to be optional for farmers to give this information.
I know several farmers who don't have a mobile phone and never will and who will never use a computer either.
If cheques are done away with it will cause plenty of problems for those lads.

Filling in email addresses and mobile number for years now, as there is a place for such info. on the SFP forms etc.
Have never got an email from them, and last year a dept. man arrived on the doorstep in a bit of a flurry, as he claimed "you never answer your phone"
The number he was trying was 5 years out of date!

IMO the Department text alert service is pretty ineffectual, I get about three texts a year. One of them is to tell me my SFP has hit my account, about a week after it's been spent.

Was chatting to an advisor a few weeks ago, and he mentioned the dept are pushing that the SFP will be all done online soon - the dept wont be accepting paper returns.

I dunno how 'soon' is, but he suggested a few years...

I guess it makes sense tho...

I've being doing my sfp online since 2006. I gave up on Teagasc paying €200/year for one visit and filling out the sfp. A few clicks of the mouse and the job is done I had to make changes a few times without problems.

Same situation, local planner was charging approx. 1000 Euro to do the paperwork for the SFP and REPs submissions.
Seeing as there was no change in the maps from year to year, I just started doing it myself, including any changes that did arise. Mainly measuring and taking off area for new house and lane ways etc. 5 years later still getting the odd letter looking for that last REPs years fees.......
