    Hey all,

Just spotted this article. Its obviously not the ideal solution, the ideal would be a regular fibre feed.

    http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/17/laser-radio-aoptix/?ncid=rss_truncated
Technology Review is reporting that three US carriers are currently testing a new high-speed wireless solution that relies on laser and radio links, which can reach speeds of around 2Gbps at distances of up to 10Km (around 6 miles).

Considering most of these exchanges (The ones that can only do 1/3/7Mb and slow down at peak) are within 10-15KM of an NGN(Fibre) exchange this could be a good way of providing reliable up to 24Mb services while the NGA(eFibre) network expands. Depends on the cost of the hardware if it'll be on Eircoms radar though. Installation could be done parallel to existing links and then traffic switched over silently falling back on old gear in case of transmission failure.

Dont hold your breath, but it could be cool.
